You not hearing about it doesn't mean anything. It did come out of nowhere of course, no doubt because it's Chinese and the language barrier can often be a thing.
But it's utterly justified.
It's easy to get news of how awful the CCP is and how the bad stuff continually goes on in China. But the week Black Myth was released a number of companies were giving away the game to staff and some even gave a day off to play it.
I barely heard about it myself. I didn't even bother to check what it was about. I avoid game media usually.
An Elden Ring / Darksouls game with a Far Cry perk tree made game of the year.
A Russian roulette game is apparently innovative.
More un-optimized High definition slop made Outstanding Visual Style. (This is not a dump on the game its self, just what it was nominated for.. i know its a good game)
Elden Ring has labor of love despite having few game changing updates and 1 DLC. (That for some reason got nominated for game of the year dispite being extended content?)
VR, eh, okay cool VR exists.
Valve system plug.
HD2 makes sense. Cool i guess
Wukong for BGYSA makes sense. Cool i guess
I don't know its story so i have no Opinion on Story Rich.
RDD soundtrack? Sure i guess?
Relax game, sure, probably better options.
Chinese players can't even play half the games that made it to be finalists, ofc they'll vote for the ones they can play.
Get your ♥♥♥♥ together Valve, as it is your awards is even worse than the game awards.
More or less agree. Especially Elden Ring getting Labor of Love, and Farm Simulator getting Sit back and Relax. All the hard-working, dedicated indie devs out there slaving over projects just for the love of being able to create a game, and we end up with big studios. I'm not saying Elden Ring isn't a good game, but there are games that have a lot more love poured into them. And Farm Simulator..? Yeah, no.
Most, if not all, of the selections boil down to 2 things when it comes to the voting: popularity and/or trolling/meme.
