There are a lot of misconceptions about human behavior. Currently, it is more likely a disorder.
Greed in an individual seems usually to be a coping mechanism to deal with an insecurity, when it isn't due to 'orders'.
For companies: its a structural error. Greed happens due to share holders, having an indirect representative like blackrock, who doesn't have a plan or focus and only 1 parasitic goal: to get more money on the shares.
The CEO is often chosen by these types of representatives.
Much like anyone doing their job, they also never have to deal with the consequences of harmful decisions. They never face anyone (the entire summary chain goes through many people till all that is left are numbers and "is unsatisfied".) No one seem to care because they disconnect from people. This too is part of the parasitic structure of a company.
It's accountability avoidant.
Because of the disconnect, they can just say "Well, its my job." -- which is like saying "I didn't do it."
Similarly: "I was ordered to.", "Everyone is doing it." etc etc. They all throw away needing to care about 'other people'. They simplify., the numbers and summaries do the same, causing dehumanization and a social disconnect. There is no need to care. The brain is distracted with stress and the fear of being fired for not doing the job too much to even think "do other people want this?"
Also, due to the enormous budgets, they can make mistakes countless times, so they care less.
Their company doesn't depend on successful games; only on satisfying the graphs and their shareholders. The CEO of a company usually has a backup fund (They usually have their own Holding), so... the CEO is like "well... mistakes happen" and they can still buy more cars even when the company goes bankrupt.

its more accurate to say "They are 'made' to be greedy."
although I have to also note that usually, CEOs are dissocial (see ICD-11, 6-11.2 https://icd.who.int/browse/2024-01/mms/en#1913158855 ) This makes them by default not care about others as much as themselves.

The good news is, such issues can be solved in therapy. The bad news (fot the OP) is that one has to want those issues to be solved. And that requires accepting those as one's own issues.

Everyone knows that you should at least wait for the first major dlc before buying it (because of bug, balancing, feature fixes.
And if i where take 2 (or whoever)and would want to make money from the game i would stop selling the game on third party keysellers and never give discounts on it.

On the plus side, If Civ7 is as badly received as its looking right now, the quicker it will get stuffed into a monthly bundle, leaving only the endless stream of DLC to pick up once thats heavily discounted.
