Looks like you are running snap version of steam. I don't know if this is what causes your issue, but you should run your distros native client for steam as it generally works better.
I second what Ateri has said, when I used the snap for steam when I first started using ubuntu, I had nothing but problems. It was slow, and I had a lot of small weird issues.

Quite frankly I'm surprised that the 'snap' version is installed from the store by default at this point.

After figuring out that these issues were caused by the fact that it was a snap, I replaced it with the .deb install downloaded right from Valves site.

Lo and behold... not a single issue (barring some with the new recording features) since.

I seriously do not think that Snaps are quite ready for the average user. But for some reason, they don't like hearing that over there.
Snaps are one of the reasons why I don't use Ubuntu.

Just have to ask. why not run windows instead when you are going to play. Of course linux is making progress in the gaming world too.
I know I have not booted windows 10 in many months, as linux gaming as come a long way. Sad that they are now using 'anticheat' as a DRM now. Thank GOD I do not play mulitplayer games.

Every game that I play regularly works just fine in linux.

Does your graphics card by any chance support a newer branch of the NVIDIA drivers? I think the 900 series is only getting deprecated in the near future.
