Game & PC shutting down when trying to play
I have been playing BG3 for some time now but today, the game crashes including the computer everytime I start the game. The game files are verified, I never had this issue before.

A friend of mine has the same issue today with playing over Steam. Is this a PC-issue or a Steam-issue? Anybody else experiencing this?

What is your computer specs? Are you getting a BSOD when it shuts down? If it just shuts down the whole pc with nothing, that tends to be a overheating issue. Stop playing the game and refund it if you can. The game is overheating your pc.

To clarify, the entire PC shuts off? Sounds like a PSU issue.

Hard to tell without posting the specifications of your PC and a more precise account of the exact issue.

Are you on a desktop or laptop?

Might be good to check your event log to make sure your CPU isn't overheating or something.

Yea, OP needs to post their computer specs here.

I actually said it was overheating too.

I am playing over PC & played the game this whole time (around 80 hours in) without any issues so far. That is why I am confused.

The whole screen goes black. I can hear PC sounds but the monitor won´t work so I have to restart the PC.
Start by posting your specs. Include the version of Windows and which build of Windows you are on.

You did indeed, which the event log should be able to provide insight into.

That's not CPU overheating, that's likely either a GPU, RAM, your HDMI cord, or monitor going out.

It could very well still be a cpu issue. What is described as happening is exactly what happened with my Intel cpu when it was having it's issues and spreading cancer throughout my PC. At this point, I'll never buy Intel again.

Again , If OP posts their computer specs and version on here, it would really help too. At this point the OP is only hurting themselves. Also, we can only speculate at this point since we do not have the OP's computer specs.

My old pc had an i7 and my current pc runs an i9, both have run steadily for years with zero incident.

Could be a cpu issues with the intel chip too if op has 13 or 14th gen chip.

"According to recent reports, 13th and 14th generation Intel chips can potentially "break" your hardware due to a software bug causing them to run at significantly elevated operating voltages, which can lead to instability, crashes, and even potential damage to the processor itself, particularly in high-performance scenarios like gaming or server workloads; this issue is primarily attributed to a faulty microcode algorithm that incorrectly assigns higher voltage than necessary to the CPU.
Key points about the problem:

Elevated Voltage Issue:
The primary cause is a software glitch in the microcode that results in the CPU requesting an excessively high voltage, pushing it beyond safe operating parameters.

Impact on Performance:
This can lead to system crashes, blue screens of death (BSODs), and unpredictable performance issues, especially in demanding applications.
Potential for Hardware Damage:
If left unaddressed, the high voltage could potentially damage the CPU over time.
Intel's Response:
Intel has acknowledged the issue and is working on a microcode update to fix the faulty voltage algorithm. "

Sorry for being slow - I am quite new to the PC gaming world and don't know all the terms referred to yet >_<

I noticed that my GPU was not updated and fixed that now. I am using GeForce RTX. I hope that might help fix the issue

Could have been your GPU drivers, yeah. Give it a shot and see if it fixes the issue.

Ok, are you using steam app? Go under help, then click on System Information. Left click your mouse and hold it in and highlight all info under there. Then right click and copy. The click in a post, and right click PASTE. Copy and paste it on here. This will give your pc info we need to see.
