Boomer Shooter?

Who came up with the idea to sell older and retro shooter game as boomer? how is that going to sell more game lol. Alot of the Boomer games are not even old. What a derogatory way to title a genre of games

Someone who thought it's funny. Same ppl that reguarly use those nonsense generation terms for specific age groups, mostly to mock them.

At least it's more imaginative than naming a genre after the most popular first title and then adding a “ ...-like” to it. Souls-like, Rogue-like...

And the term “4X” was just a stupid joke and was then adopted.

As long as people know what it means, it doesn't really matter.

Being a boomer myself, i would consider "boomer games", the PS2 era and prior. But i've seen these 35 plus year old COD Hate Tubers called "boomers".

It's sort of a name for anything mid age or older, including games i suppose.

Kinda-sorta makes sense in a twisted way: I like things going boom in a shooter and this kind of games is all about making things going boom.

Kind of wish Doom Like or Quake Like or something similar would replace the category in the same vein that we have Souls Like or Rogue Like these days.

As I understand it, it has nothing to do with the actual "boomer' generation, it's just silly modern internet slang for "retro/classic/90's" shooters. Doom/Quake clones.

And Boomer Shooters are typically the sort of games where you can often use a rocket launcher as your primary weapon.

I suppose another name for them would be 'twitch shooters'

So essentially it would be Gen-X shooter I guess, but that isn't very snappy.
