It should be still associated with your steam account of your son. Just look in their library of games and reinstall the game. Note that the saves might be deleted, but then again, they might still be working if it uses steam cloud saves. Good luck!

If you have cloud saves enabled you might be able to get the save from here

Dumb Question, but have you looked in the Trash Bin yet? Deleted Files go to the Trash Bin from which you have to fully delete them.
I doubt he would have also deleted it from there when it was on Accident.
IF its not cloudsaved in the first place.

he didn´t delete the file by "deleting", he saved a new fresh game on top of the saved game - so therefore I called that the saved game was "deleted". i checked the cloud, there was the same new 0% version :( (or not sure if I knew how to use the cloud file, i downloaded it, and places to the C: to game file where a similarily named file existed).

If he did that, then the old save is gone, as the new one would gave overwritten the one in the cloud as well.

Unless you have done backups of your computer or user folders and files, you are out luck.

Yeah, if you overwrite that Slot with the Ingame Feature, then youre SOL, only thing you could do but not a Guarantee, is to roll back the PC to an earlier State with the Windows Feature, however it might not even be enabled, or the last backup might be a long time ago.

thanks! yes, looks like that´s the deal, just have to live with it - and to learn from the mistake.

he actually started a new game today, and told it was easier now (as he knew what and how to do) :)

Just an FYI that cloud saves aren't a panacea either as they can get corrupted. I have games where people lost their entire save because of a rare glitch and had to start over. I've gotten into the habit of copying the save game folders for a handful of games to another spot on the hard drive after each play session (and usually keep the last two or three most recent copies this way), just in case anything happens to corrupt the current saves.

As always, it's a good idea to ensure you are backing up your computer or at least the vital folders and files on a regular basis with a standard backup prorgram. It will always come in handy in situations like this and saved my butt more than a few times in the past.

With the game closed -- if that's still a thing; before you close it make sure you have all you want from that cloud storage location lest it be potentially overwritten -- put that recovered file back from where it came, as for most games listed on PCGamingWiki. A cloud sync will/should then ask you what to do; choose to upload local files.

I literally had to restart one of the Lego Batman games because it auto-saved in an invalid state, locking me out of being able to complete the full roster. This was waaaay-- passed the end-game at roughly 90% completion as well.

I know this particular flavor of pain, all too well.
