Game publishers don't understand how inflation works
Inflation doesn't mean people have more money to spend on games, it means cost of food, electricity, gas etc. rises, so people have less money to spend on entertainment and they will eventually give up and quit the hobby.

They understand perfectly well how it works.

As a result it will also mean the devs get less money which obviously also has its results.

Welcome to the inflation spiral... where costs rise, people demand higher wages and ... who would have guessed that things also get more expensive as a result of that?

Devs have bills to pay too, bub. Or did you think they live in Magical Dev Land where expenses and inflation are just figments of a bad nightmare?

Got news for you, gaming is a luxury hobby, and is not a God given right. As such, it can be a very expensive hobby, and one for which choices must be made.

One thing to note, however, is that comparatively speaking, the cost of games have not risen as much as the cost of other forms of entertainment.

They had years of record high profits, most money goes to management and share holders.

To add to this (for those who don't understand the basic concept of that simple but intelligent statement) they are people, too ... not just developers. If you don't think they aren't out buying groceries and other things as well it is you who don't understand humanity.

All this topic tells me is it is about you and lack of common sense.

Nor every dev studio is a corporation, bub. In fact, very, very few of them are. And every single employee has a right to earn a living - unless of course you also agree that you may be overpaid for your line of work as well.

And businesses have a right to make a profit nor is every game company making tons of money like you believe.

I'm not a huge fan of $70 being the new norm for AAA games (which are a luxury that we don't have to buy, unlike food or clothing) but inflation has pretty much dodged the gaming industry for literal decades. It was not uncommon to pay upwards of $50 for a game in the 80s. Today, many excellent games can be had for $15 - $25. But if we're impatient or we just want the latest and greatest as soon as it releases, well yeah the cost of new blockbusters is finally starting to increase by 15%.

Correct, and companies are made up of people, which are also affected by the rising cost of food, electricity, gas, etc.

The flow of money is not A to B, its circular.

Plus they have to deal marketing campaigns, licensing deals, maintenance, continued support, investments, new product creation and appeasing shareholders who demand a steady profit.

It's called priorities. If you can't afford it, then you have to readjust your priorities.

It's also not these companies fault that you can't afford it.

Wait for sales and only buy during sales and/or buy games in bundles from legitimate websites.

Here, Ill make you feel better:

In 1982, Atari PacMan raised the going price for top shelf games from $45 to $50.

Later in 1982, Atari Defender raised that price again from $50 to $55.

55 1982 dollars is $175 now.

Gaming remains an especially cheap pastime, especially on a per hour of entertainment basis. In fact, it is historically cheaper than it has ever been. Compare that $70 AAA title to $175 for not-quite-8 bit Defender.
