steam name censored
my name (mimiroru92) currently appears censored. i've used it for years with no issue, but "miror" is now suddenly an offensive term.. what's up with that?

Interesting. I can't find any direct translation that translates that into profanity or a slur in any language, but I don't know what common slang in 7100+ languages spoken around the globe may be, or use that word as. Machine translation is sloppy, and it may be being mistranslated by the standard Chromium dictionary, or a custom dictionary that Steam uses to filter out profanity or offensive terms.

You can try asking Steam Support for help, though they may not be able to explain why it is happening, and they may not be able to remove the filter. Help> Steam Support> Steam Community> Community Profiles or "I need help with something not listed here"> Contact Steam Support.
That's about the only option I see that you may have to try, and again- Steam Support may not be able to help. Only way to know is to try. If they say they can't help, that's it. You may need to find a way to use the same name but with a _ or * added in somewhere to break up the part that is oddly filtered right now.

(quick edit for 2 typos)

Yeah, it's odd that it is filtered in your name, but not in the text in your OP. All I can think of is someone may have reported your profile name as being inappropriate if they say the part that was filtered is a profane or off-color slang term in some language other than English. I couldn't find it as either, but I didn't do a really deep dive into the word as slang in any language.

You can message a mod I belive who can look into this for you (I seem to recall this being a thing you can do).

Sometimes the filter triggers on such things, and if it's an oversight they can fix it (or at least pass it onto the right people).

I have never seen Steam censoring profile names like that. Usually they will just reset it to your SteamID (just a list of numbers).

They may have just implemented something new, to maybe combat the profile name advertising.
If it's new then it's not unusual to be buggy.

That is what happens when a word is added to the filter.
That is not a reported name, support acting on the report and resetting the name.
2 different things.

There is other names kicking around with random letter/number combinations that are censored because of external advertising.

In forum posts I know about how the filter works, but looking at the OP's first post where he shows us his profile name (mimiroru92), it's not filtered.

I have never seen that there is a filter implemented for profile names before.
Has it always been there, or is it new?

It's a dirty word in ancient Latin.

I just tested renaming my other account to mimiroru92 just like the OP, and my profile name was also censored.

So, there is a filter for profile names. I just didn't know about it.
I wonder how all those profile names with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ etc. can still exist

Must be a newer thing if only the name itself was censored.
