Hide account name (e.g. for safe livestreaming)
Before I post this in suggestions, I need to know the general situation. I am surprised that my web search didn't yield anything useful.

The Steam client and the website shows your account name (and wallet balance). If you are doing a livestream, dynamic, with various windows open, with visible desktop, this would really be among the things one would want to hide.

Seems the Enhanced Steam browser plugin doesn't offer this feature. And Steam itself neither.
Even if I ventured into browser scripts and manually removed it, there would still be the client itself. Is there some modification maybe to accomplish this?

So what's the situation? Is this even discussed at any time? Or did people settle for some kind of workaround? Or do they simply not care?

Something went wrong while displaying this content. Refresh

Currently it can not be disabled. Some will have the client slightly off screen to hide the account name, most will only have the screen for the game being played streamed with the rest of the desktop not being shown.

Last person with this problem solved it by using a skin for Steam I think.

Another possible solution is to set your steam to View -> Small Mode whenever you're planning on streaming.
In an external browser, Steam's store pages will have your wallet balance, but not Steam's community pages.

Also, in the client, I think you can prevent the wallet funds from showing using a Family View setting, but I'm not entirely sure.

Username is unhideable though, unfortunately. Which sucks since it can't be changed either.

You can use a steam client skin to hide or change the account name.

A while ago when I learned there are various skins that provide the kind of intelligent UI that the default client just won't deliver, I checked out various and the only one that mostly satisfied me is PixelVision, which I am now using and which is sadly, no longer being developed (meh, typical). So I don't even know whether I'd have to find some specific one that offers the option to hide it (I didn't even know skins allowed the feature of customizing options), and that would mean accepting various UI drawbacks with it.
So this is not really a solution, while the absolutely trivial adding of an option to hide the personal details would be the ideal and elegant way to solve it.
But, as I have experienced so often, the useful little things that take sometimes just five minutes to implement seem to be the most unlikely to ever see the light of day.

Oh nice. Thank you!
I agree that we should have a setting to hide the account name and wallet balance.

Enhanced Steam does have an option to replace that account name with your profile name. Click Enhanced Steam at the top of your profile, select Options, and you will find "Replace account name with community name" under the General section of the Store tab.

You can request an option to hide the wallet balance in the Enhanced Steam group http://steamcommunity.com/groups/enhancedsteam . Jason Shackles, the author of Enhanced Steam, frequently responds to posts there.

I have no "Options" in the Enhanced Steam menu. (It's up-to-date.) Addon options in the browser addon settings doesn't have it either.
Is this maybe a Chrome-only option?

I suppose it could be a Chrome-only option. http://www.enhancedsteam.com/featuredetail.php?id=24

"Replace account name with community name" was added to Chrome Enhanced Steam version 4.8, released on the 28th of September, 2013. http://steamcommunity.com/groups/enhancedsteam#announcements/detail/1623836641252286868

Which version of Enhanced Steam are you using?

That is very bad solution.

Why is it a very bad solution? It provides an isolated account which can be deauthorised at any time that costs nothing, while protecting your main account.
