Steam pass
Paying a monthly fee to steam to have access to some press games that wanted to rent their games to steam would make everyone win both steam that would charge a portion of the monthly fee as the company would receive per month and more players that they could have access to several games for a low monthly fee attracting more people to the new STEAM PASS

There always so many sales and cheap games that a steam pass would not even be Interesting in my opinion.

Developers, publishers are in control of their products on Steam including setting the price, when a game is discounted, when it gets a free weekend etc and they could choose to rent a game. Valve on the other hand cannot simply create a rental service, nor game pass and override the choices of developers, publishers over their products.

It simply boils down to income from a developers, publishers point of view.

$60 for a game x 1 million copies sold = $60, 000,000.

or

$5 to rent the game x 1 million copies = $5,000,000 - a $55,000,000 loss.

Steam not offering a "Steam pass" can mean several things.

For starters, they might not be interested in something like that. Case closed.

It could also mean they asked around (they need publishes to participate, after all), and the response wasn't promising enough. Case closed.

Or it could mean they are have received encouraging responses, and are working out the details now...

Either way, we don't know.

the only way I'd see it happening is like amazon luna where each publisher has their own channel.

Sounds like a nightmare from the customer's perspective.
what else , like have only 5 to 10 games on a constant rotation to avoid having a sub that cost a hundred per months or just make no money for the developers involved ?

give it time, im guessing around 1 year after the steam deck is out proper then we may see some sort of steam pass.

Well, I'd pass the pass. In the end renting software is only good for the developers and/or publishes, not necessarily for the people themselves.

its called humble bundle you pay a monthly fee and they toss a bunch of games at you, you can also just use the other monthly sub passes other companys have offered on pc, there really isnt a reason for steam to do it since you can buy every valve game for dirt cheap few times a year

most people people with game pass only buy it when its $1 then stop paying the subs for ea and uplay arnt really worth it unless maybe you were going to buy every game they come out with any ways or just wanted to "demo" things then stop paying after the first month

i never really felt paying full price for these subs were worth it when i can just buy a indie game i actually like for a month and return it if I dont like it vs having a bunch of random games i may or may not like that are often so old i can just wait for it to go on sale for cheap

think the ps4 games with gold made sense because you pay for online and get free games so your not really paying a seperate pass

Devs can already set up a subscription/pass for their catalogs. So can groups of developers. EA does, but most devs don't. They prefer actual sales.

Too many game subscription services. And most of them suck.

XBOX Game Pass is the best, and even I rarely use it. I might just cancel it.

Only things I sign up for has to give me games to keep like Humble Bundle. I will not use passes and keep the money to buy games for my collection.

I been saying this for years. I already subscribe to gamespass, ea access from time to time but I would love steam to do something along these lines.

Before anyone says, your only renting, you don't own the game blah blah... firstly im saving a fortune by not buying games outright. Instead of paying £50 for that new title I want to play, I pay MS or EA a month set fee and play that game until I finish it. Because for me, I tend never to return to playing games I have already finished.

For me personally it works out financially better to go this route, may or may not work out for others but for me, its the only choice now. If I put it into numbers you will understand...

I have subscribed to gamespass 3x times this year and once to EA access. So far it cost me about £30 for 4 months gaming for myself and my kids (kids mostly). So by doing this route, I have saved well over £200 or more. Over years I believe I have saved well over a £1000+, lost count to be honest.

Yes, I lose access to those games once sub expires but like I stated above, I never return to most games once I finish them.
