It seems that most keys that are available for EA games cannot be redeemed on Steam - they have to be redeemed on Origin. So, it's probably mathematically a good deal for EA as some keys are heavily discounted and a Steam purchase probably offsets a loss (or comes close) to a key being redeemed on Origin.
That's why I redeem on Origin - it can be incredibly cheaper.
Then you didn't actually read the store page on Steam. It's clearly listed.
If you aren't averse to using multiple launchers, you should always look for the cheapest deal in my opinion.
Keep in mind that it's the publishers, EA, that decides that they want their own launcher running along the game.
Same with Ubisoft -- the games that are still on Steam are still an option, and those that aren't are never an option anyway.
It doesn't in any way "complicate" ownership, as you don't own anything anyway... even if you buy it on its publisher's site...
Is it stupid that other companies insist on their own launcher in addition to Steam? Yes, yes it is. But it's there to stay, ain't going anywhere, and it's rarely steam's fault when something goes wrong.
because remember: if that Origin or Ubi launcher doesn't work through steam it's also not working on their own site 9 times out of 10.
