Why Buy EA Games On Steam if Origin is Required?
My question is exactly what the title suggests. Why should I buy an EA game on Steam that requires Origin to run? I recently purchased Mass Effect Legendary Edition, not knowing Origin was required to run it. Then when I start it, I have to have Origin running also to play it. One problem is, I could have gotten it cheaper on Origin. So can anyone tell me, why bother buying games on Steam that cost more if Steam doesn't even host the game? Will Steam be hosting these games in the future? If not, I see no reason to buy any EA games on Steam going forward unless they're at a deep discount.

You were told on the store page that Origin is required.

Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: EA on-line activation and Origin client software installation and background use required.
Requires 3rd-Party Account: EA Account
Requires agreement to a 3rd-party EULA

... to have games on Steam. As a launcher, Origin is less annoying than the Square/Bethesda/Unity/basically any other launcher.
they're just adverting their game on steam but you gotta play the game on origin

Its still clearly shown on the store page that a third-party is required.

EA probably see it as a good deal for them for people to buy on Steam - even though they probably pay commission to Steam.

It seems that most keys that are available for EA games cannot be redeemed on Steam - they have to be redeemed on Origin. So, it's probably mathematically a good deal for EA as some keys are heavily discounted and a Steam purchase probably offsets a loss (or comes close) to a key being redeemed on Origin.

That's why I redeem on Origin - it can be incredibly cheaper.
Some people simply want all their games centralised in one launcher. Other people do so for the additional Steam perks that MalikQayum listed.

Then you didn't actually read the store page on Steam. It's clearly listed.

If you aren't averse to using multiple launchers, you should always look for the cheapest deal in my opinion.

Keep in mind that it's the publishers, EA, that decides that they want their own launcher running along the game.
If I were to buy an EA game, I would get it on Steam JUST so it's in my Steam library.

Same with Ubisoft -- the games that are still on Steam are still an option, and those that aren't are never an option anyway.

EA Games on Steam use a limited and smaller "thin" launcher that auto-starts and auto-shuts with the game. No need to actively hassle with the launcher much that way. Also it comes with all the Steam-Features included and also IT IS ON STEAM that way. I'd always buy my games on Steam. Never bought an EA game since they left here years ago, now I bought almost all of them again.
There is no good reason to do so. Buying such games through Steam complicates you're ownership, it's like keeping your eggs in multiple baskets then tying those baskets together with explosive trip wires.
well the guy that makes the explosive trip wires need a job too...

It doesn't in any way "complicate" ownership, as you don't own anything anyway... even if you buy it on its publisher's site...

Is it stupid that other companies insist on their own launcher in addition to Steam? Yes, yes it is. But it's there to stay, ain't going anywhere, and it's rarely steam's fault when something goes wrong.

because remember: if that Origin or Ubi launcher doesn't work through steam it's also not working on their own site 9 times out of 10.

Are you so dense you can't understand how double the DRM means double the risk of permanently losing access to software or do you just love to ACKCHYUALLY?
LOL wow dude you have absolutely no idea how business OR software work.
