steam avatar bans are a joke.
I recently changed my profile picture to a cosplay of pinhead but the girl who was in the picture had a really big chest. it shouldn't matter, though. she was covered. anyways, im banned from changing my avatar for 3 weeks and i contacted support about it, they said i violated their TOS and to read over it and the ban will NOT be lifted. I explained to them and sent screenshots of the items listed in their store for steam points such as anime cat girls in borderline g strings, anime girls with skin tight clothing, etc. and their response was that they take reports seriously and closed my ticket. how is this fair, am i missing something?

3 week ban doesn't happen on a first offense AFAIK.

You could ask support if they change your Avatar ban und nto a community ban if that would fit better with you......

I think it has to be worse than big boobs to actually get profile picture ban as that's literally just a physical feature, assuming there was clothing at all.

If there was a person in the picture, that person automatically has portrait rights. So unless you were given explicit permission to use someone their portrait, this could have been the reason why they removed it.

You also have portrait rights yourself, just like any other citizen. And I cannot just use your picture without your permission.

(I am not sure if you agree with having such rights, but you have them regardless whether you want them or not. I doubt Valve would be making jokes at your expense. They're a serious company, and they don't have time for making jokes.)

support claims loads of bans are applied correctly, then another pops in to fix the mistakes made by other support and moderation employees.

I pretty much ignore the copy pasta replies and ask for a supervisor/human, as some seem like they can't be bothered to read past the first line of your comment in the ticket, or others copy pasta unrelated nonsense, like they didn't read anything at all.

I also think them closing tickets claiming them as resolved is a whole other issue, that needs to be stopped.

sooner or later, valve will notice the nonsense and rectify the issues, maybe with new support/moderation staff, well.. in valve time.

examples of "mistakes" for me personally, are false bans that are unwarranted, unwarranted warnings, artwork that is banned, but told later that it didn't break rules and shouldn't have been banned, ban for saying I got a game for free, yet 2 comments above it i state a community member gifted me the game, then said ban is removed and support claims I should be more clear in my comments lol (more like moderation should do a better job), or unwarranted ban for asking someone to "please block and ignore me", etc..

I could name off others, but I would have to search all my support tickets and moderation notification screenshots that I have saved up.

not to mention clear cut rules being broken, yet offenders aren't punished, but punished other times for doing the same stuff, or some never being punished, or reports simply ignored or "lost", or the whole moderation on vacation during the weekends...

While technically true it is unlikely unless the cosplayer herself reached out and reported the avatar. Valve does not tend to enforce those kinds of claims unless the actual owner of those rights reaches out and files a report themselves. After all there are many accounts which upload artwork stolen from the internet and I have never seen or had any of those deleted based on user reports.

It's Steam. Not sure why you're even surprised anymore at the shenanigans...

Steam is on the client list of a controversial consultation group that "wants to burn the gaming industry to the ground." Their words not mine.

So Steam is selling games with points as a bonus to get you to buy from Steam directly. Then they are selling you items with those points, then banning you for using said items.
