XNBs are just archives propietary to Microsoft.
Did you tried any of them? I repeat XNBs are archives for resources. Like ZIPs. It will contain grpahic assets, sound assets, text ressources, ...
The guides should tell you how to crack open that archive.
"Doesn't work" is not exactly much information to help you.
Also, I don't know what's linked in the Terraria guide but for the second link it suggests https://github.com/LeonBlade/xnbcli/releases which works fine.
