Putting the actual release date behind a pay wall and calling "Advanced Access" is so scummy.
Screw companies that picked up this new practice.
We thought early access was bad? This is worse. Pay extra to get it on the release date or wait a few days to get it late and the "day one" feel is gone.

agreed, anything to suck more money out of people's pockets, it general is simply predatory.

while it is up to users to "vote with your wallet", that also doesn't remove blame from companies, as these companies know some are easy prey, this is why the predatory marketing helps to rake in that money, in different ways that may end up with people losing said money depending on circumstances.
Your use of the word 'prey' to define people who simply have differing preferences and values does not speak well of you m8. At the very best it tells of an ingrained mentality of perpetual victimhood.

There are no predators or prey here m8. There are just people spending money on the things THEY deem worthy of THEIR money. You're allowed to disagree with them, but the moment you start presenting such people and their decisions in a lesser light...that's the line.

that's why I believe threads complaining about it get more word out about it, then doing/saying nothing, thus hopefully getting the attention of people who enable these companies to keep doing it, or thinking up new ways to do it after their last attempts lose its allure.
And it's just as likely to advertise this feature to those who would buy into it.

me personally, I vote with my wallet, on all aspects of the game, the devs and w/e else surrounds said company and it's products, be it pricing, nickle and diming with dlc's that have little to no content, politics, how devs react to customer complaints/any issues, bugs, or anything else I haven't mentioned off the top of my head.

Hmmm. Mot gamers just focus on "the Game" and really don't care about the devs the publishers etc. I mean EA is considered the worst and has been for like a decade now...and yet, they still raking in the massive profits.

Because the initial boost of playerbase and reviews also can result in creating a sales hit.

This can also occur by simply giving access to everyone at the same time.

But due to how marketing and psychology works, also less of interest/priority.

The early adopters are the ones who want the game anyway. Why not charge them a bit more for some extra days and some goodies?
From a business POV it's most certainly not an illogical one.

And as said, if it hurts the companies, they'll stop with it. But seeing how advanced access is just a tier upgrade of regular pre-orders, one should absolutely not be surprised that it gets both supplied and demanded. Long live the free market, eh.

Good old capitalism.
The game of each side trying to get as much from the other for as little as possible,

It's why I say the minyute you consider a game a "MUST HAVE" you've lost.
People will pay up for 'anticipated access' for the same reason people pay to access 'pre release betas', pay for backstage passes, or stand in queue for days to buy a phone.

There's always been a market for being the first, for the premium access.

And of all the monetisation schemes out there, letting a few players have a pre-release tour is one of the more tame ones.

Journalists are more trustworthy than steam reviews? LOL

Steam reviews are beyond simply garbage. They're distilled and refined garbage.
I think it's hilarious.

Let these idiots pay for beta testing, while I get a tested and patched game when it's at 75% discount.

Don't see any issue with it, i mean who cares if someone pays more to get it a few days early. If they didn't offer it earlier you'd still have to wait the same amount of time.

Although if you don't like the practice then vote with your wallet.

I did.
