Does Steam share someone else's IP address upon request?
When there are insults, swearing and threats in a game played on Steam, can the IP address of the other person be requested upon request?

Ask the authorities.

On what legal grounds? ;) there are none.

Not to mention that an IP address means absolutely nothing.

You really think any police would launch an international investigation because someone said something you don't like?

Random people can't, but authorities can, but there have to be legal just cause reason, and have to comply with law.

Well now you know. I would suggest think about it more for the question before asking, as why would any company would give out someone information upon request to a random person.

Also IP don't mean much since people can use VPN/proxy, or have dynamic IP address.

That would not really be something which would protect you from getting found out...even if a lot of people think that.

They wouldn't bother with IP address when they could just go for the billing info.

An IP address itself means zip, nothing and won't account to you getting found out in the first place. What many people overlook is the fact that an IP address is owned by the ISP, not the customer so ... how would this even account to getting "found out"?

If you'd trace my IP you'd think I live in Amsterdam, fact of the mather though is that I live in a city that is approx. 80km's away from that.

If you then check the WHOIS data of the IP... you'll get info from my ISP, not myself.

Zalgo above me said it all... billing info aka account details mean way more than an IP.

Your isp is usually saving the data which customer got which ip at which point, which then can be asked to give out by law enforcemt (if they get the permission by a judge in most case).

Same can happen on most VPN services as they save user data too.

Or do you really think that those things would be anonym?

Depending on service you use well not the ones that will bend the knee for the law enforcement can be promblematic, since they could offer user to be anonym since requires ton of time to be filed, and by then that service could've walked by the time their law enforcement knocks on their door.

Anyways if you have the customer info already ip pointless since know whom it is already, it only issue to those that didn't provide said info, and no way to trace it back to the "customer" since there no way to check any stores, or anything if free user that happen to got "gift card" online. Again this isn't new either since scammers been doing stuff like that like itunes, and whatever.

On Steam? Valve moderators must not be happy with you for causing them a contact from law enforcement. They have to deal with enough subpoenas when someone from the OT community does something tragic.
