Buy on local store games instead of digital through steam.
I dont like that steam can remove games from my library so I going to buy the games from a real store. In that way I can keep my games from being deleted. I understand steam but I dont like it. I will not buy digital games through steam any more. If any one else dont want the game that you paid to be removed from steam I suggest you buy from a local store and not buy from steam any more.

Steam isn't removing games, game devs/pubs do.

Even physical games that require Steam and have a Steam key, that key is just a license.

Nothing has changed.

Sorry to tell you, but you are ALWAYS just buying a License, since well over 30 Years now...

And good luck with buying "physical" Games. :steammocking:

Your fear is unfounded given that since you created this account of yours nearly 20 years ago, all you have every owned on steam was a license to play a game. Nothing in terms of ownership has changed since 2004 when you created the account.

But good luck in your quest.

Those "physical" games you're buying are nothing more than cases with a key inside in most cases. You'll still be downloading the game on Steam, Epic or one of the other launchers. They all have the same licensing model too.

So good luck with that plan of yours.

Most of those real stores are only selling discs with installers for some platform or another. The discs no longer have the actual games. So you're kinda fecked either way. Besides. Who would want to go back to that level of assbackwards limitation.

Oooh yet another post from someone who doesn't understand the terms.

NOTHING HAS CHANGED.

Please understand this - ALL digitally distributed games on EVERY platform can be taken away. It's always been the case.

Noothing has changed in that regard. Sorry you've only just realised this, but that's on you.

Some people just don't listen sadly, and think they know better.

I've said this many times. Go and watch arrest cams on Youtube.

So very many of them you will not just find ignorance of basic laws, but so often it's coupled with entitlement and arrogance.

I guarantee that you will not get through 6 of such videos before you hear the immortal words
"I KNOW MY RIGHTS" and then they immediately demonstrate they absolutely do not.

It's the same here.
Next time I see a game like "Under Night in-Birth" or "Bloodstained - Ritual of the night", I will. Stores however only sell mainstream trash so... Steam remains the better option. Mainstream trash remains trash, so owning it is worthless anyway.

They're probably just saying: Listen guys, we can do this: We can remove content. Just in case you aren't aware of it. We have no intention of doing that, but we could do that, and we need you to know that. Just in case we do that, and you didn't know that we could.

I also do not know why they have to remind you of it. As in: people already agreed to this ages ago. Why bring this up again?

Anyway, you should do your own thing, ofcourse. If you think it makes sense.
because the nanny state of of cali apparently thinks people need another reminder. apparently they might be right co considering the reactions of some people. Apparently all those times they clicked I agree they did so without actually looking at what they were agreeing to...which explains why debt is such an issue for sooo many people.

that is true but not always :D
Steam isn't going to take away your games.

It'd be bad business, and the longer they can keep you in their client the better. They spent the last 20 years building up a monopoly, they aren't going to just throw that away.

There are things being put into motion that may help stop developers from ripping away your games at end of life in the EU

steam does ban games, but if you have the license they wont take it way from you
Paratech2008 Oct 19, 2024 @ 6:16pm
I could only get a hat in time digital on my Switch. Physical copies are rare. I got the complete version for under $20 digital on sale.

That's one example.

Another Torchlight II $2.99 digital. Ara Fell under $5.

That depends on why a game was removed from Steam. There have been cases of fraudulent "games" being sold to customers. Those games have been removed from libraries and customers refunded.

Games, even when sold physically, can be shutdown.

The Crew, Babylon's Fall, Battleborn, Darkspawn, etc. All of these could be purchased physically. None of them can be played on any system.

Now Valve aren't going to take away your non-Valve games, without a VERY good reason. Usually a legal one. Such as the key you registered being obtained illegally or the above example of the game being fraudulent in nature (in which case, the developer/publisher is forcefully removed from Steam). Valve could "take away" their own games from you, such as if they deem it no longer viable to keep supporting its servers, but that is true regardless of whether you purchased digitally or physically.
Paratech2008 Oct 19, 2024 @ 6:48pm
Yeah I purchased some game physically for an EA game that was always online and it got shut down.

I paid less than $5 so it wasn't a big deal.

Also if a game isn't updated any more a new OS may break it.

BTW didn't Apple drop 32 bit support and kill every 32bit game with impunity a long while ago? And aren't delisted games, movies, etc removed from libraries?
