So the games I bought (with real money) dont belong me?
So, can my “license” be revoked at any time? why is this only now apparent? that MY PURCHASED GAMES do not belong to me
Its like when I buy a car, after a few years he comes and says "I want the car back because I only sold you a license for it", back in the day you bought a CD and the one playing was MINE when it was If devs came to me and took it away from me, it would of course be theft!

That cant be right, there is a petition for the EU please everyone sign it! and if Steam were to be banned in the EU, over to GOG because the games you buy really belong to you (why does GOG manage that?)

Bruh when u buy the game u accept its terms and conditions. And they always say that they have the right to take the game off of u at any point. Read the terms and stop crying

You only own a license on GoG as well, it just feels more like ownership cause there's no DRM associated with GoG.

Also the same reason why GoG has a significantly smaller catalog, of course.

And queue two hundred more like this who think they're being clever by quoting what everyone already knows.

OP is commenting that "practice A is absurd".

Then someone steps in and says "Lol practice A exists". Yeah, thanks. We all know that, he's poking at the fact that it's ridiculous. Your armchair regurgitation impresses nobody.

More proof that OP is just following clickbait articles and videos instead of informing themselves.

GOG manage that by misleading their customers. You don't own the games you buy on GOG. If you took the time to read GOG's terms, you'll find they admit this within them. You're still buying the same license to play as you do anywhere else.

LOL you act like this is a new concept. it's not. this applies to games, movies, music. you DON'T own any of it. if you're wondering how often a publisher, artist, company etc has revoked your key. it doesn't happen very often. If you earned it illegally of course it would be revoked that way. The problem with just revoking the key for no reason would burn anyone who does it.

No one will ever want to buy from them again. their reputation will be ruined if they simply do that. But again this is NOT a new concept. this is over 30 years old. lol

Why start yet another thread on this, when you could read any of the 500 other ones posted over the past month?

sign the petition!

The European game preservation thing has nothing to do with the license/ownership issue.
It has to do with games no longer being able to function when their online servers/etc go poof.

As stated in GOG's terms:

2.1 We give you and other GOG users the personal right (known legally as a 'license') to use GOG services and to download, access and/or stream (depending on the content) and use GOG content. This license is for your personal use. We can stop or suspend this license in some situations, which are explained later on.

You cared enough about GOG to try and mention them as some kind of saint in your opening post. No, you can't move the goal posts now you've been shown you're wrong.

And the fact is, you do own your games in the same way you would physically. That is, you don't. And never have. You own a license that allows you access to that game. Been like that for 54 years. It ain't changing now.

The difference is GOG won't sell you games where the dev set up tools to enforce the license (AKA: DRM)...

For now.

There's already a number of games on GOG with 'soft DRM' where parts of the games are tied to account or online connections. So their stance that 'we're not the same as Steam' is disingenuous at best.

Are you up for the task of not being able to play almost any game?

Beware what you wish for...

Its really shocking that I have to explain to you that it goes without saying that what I bought belongs to me
and if you are of this opinion, devs and launchers MUST NEVER get upset about piracy, it goes without saying that it will be a lot, because that means I really have it on an external storage... well, you cant have both, people that Sell full game but at the same time no one should engage in piracy because it's bad "la la la I live in my own world, we cant hear you" -Devs

You only buy license to use software, you don't buy software itself.

It's legal and in accordance with EU law.

That is about GOG galaxy service mostly, which is similar to steam. Once u download the OFFLINE INSTALLER of the game the game is yours, you own it. U can install it on any pc,even offline which i have done and it works perfectly
