You only own a license on GoG as well, it just feels more like ownership cause there's no DRM associated with GoG.

Also the same reason why GoG has a significantly smaller catalog, of course.

GOG manage that by misleading their customers. You don't own the games you buy on GOG. If you took the time to read GOG's terms, you'll find they admit this within them. You're still buying the same license to play as you do anywhere else.

LOL you act like this is a new concept. it's not. this applies to games, movies, music. you DON'T own any of it. if you're wondering how often a publisher, artist, company etc has revoked your key. it doesn't happen very often. If you earned it illegally of course it would be revoked that way. The problem with just revoking the key for no reason would burn anyone who does it.

The European game preservation thing has nothing to do with the license/ownership issue.
It has to do with games no longer being able to function when their online servers/etc go poof.

The difference is GOG won't sell you games where the dev set up tools to enforce the license (AKA: DRM)...

For now.

There's already a number of games on GOG with 'soft DRM' where parts of the games are tied to account or online connections. So their stance that 'we're not the same as Steam' is disingenuous at best.

That is about GOG galaxy service mostly, which is similar to steam. Once u download the OFFLINE INSTALLER of the game the game is yours, you own it. U can install it on any pc,even offline which i have done and it works perfectly
