Am I the only left handed gamer?
Ok, maybe this is a minor issue, but I have to vent some steam.. ha, ha.. Why does nearly all games use the WASD keys to move? The keyboard does have arrow buttons. I'm left handed and the WASD config is really uncomfortable. OK, usually you can reconfigure the key setup, but for games with many keys it is hard to get them mapped in a useful manner. I've dumped games that would probably be fun, but after using a lot of time to reconfigure key for left hand and then having the game have hardcoded HUD reminders and more of this stuff you just get angry at it and move on. It would be really nice if the developers would keep in mind and create a left handed setup also. It cant be that hard to implement.

No, but games tend to be designed around what is the most common factor and that means right handed people as the default.

Some have alternative defaults that place the buttons better for left handed, but these are few and far between. I agree it should be done more often though.

My wife is left handed, but she easily adapted to right handed controls. According to her, it isn't as easy for everyone though.

A long time ago, I was trying to play right handed, which often meant reconfiguring all the keys, or trying to cope with the default setup somehow.

Eventually, I decided that getting used to left-handed gameplay was probably less of a problem in the long run. So, the mouse has been on the right of the keyboard ever since.

Nowadays, a lot of games don't need mouse/keyboard anymore, which is always appreciated. Whether or not gamepads are left/right-handed -- I don't know.

curious, do you use the mouse in your left hand? Im left handed but alot of things I have grown to use as a righty.

I'm a leftie but i play as a rightie. Guess i didn't know there where 2 ways to play so i just learned the 'standard'. I actually find the 'rightie' way more suited to a leftie because my left hand is more dexterous, precise etc. so handling the keyboard with all dem buttons is easier.

Now granted the mouse part can be tricky to someone who hasn't adjusted but when you get the hang of it it's no problem. There isn't really much movement with the mouse just a pattern for each game that muscle memory can handle no problem.

But overall yea they should totally make a reverse keyboard with flipped sides....the arrow part really doesn't hold up to the WASD.

On a side note i want the left hand option back in FPS!!!

Oy vey! The problems when you're among a group that numbers 10% of Earth's population....no one gives a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

I use the mouse with the left hand, and prefer to map the commands to either the arrow keys and INS, DEL, Home, End and Pg up and down or the numeric keyboard.

I've tried to move my keyboard to the right but then te pinky have to do alot and the thumb sorta floats in the air.

I mean, on my PS3 most games have 2 configs as standard and the PS3 controller is way more intuitive and ergonomic than the keyboard

You can find left-handed mice, which makes it unusable for anyone else, but they also make ambi-mice. Microsoft's Wheel Mouse Optical USB is hand-neutral which works in either hand. Also you can switch the left/right mouse buttons from within Windows's control panel.

You may have a bit of trouble finding a left-handed keyboard... with the numpad and arrows, etc on the left. But typing would be weird anyway. The best thing is to set all the buttons how you want per game. Good luck.

You're not alone. I am also left-handed but I've learned to use the mouse with my right hand, because I never saw someone using it differently. I also think its more comfortable, but I guess thats just because im used to it :P

I'm a left handed gamer (I keep the right handed mouse button config though, weird as it is) And arrow keys (plus Rshift Rctrl and 0/1 on the keypad) for gaming.
At the end, i ended fixing the lack of keys around the arrow ones by a surplus of mouse buttons.
Then comes finding a mouse for 'lefties' with extra buttons that doesn't break your hand ergonomics and has the buttons on the right side (try using side thumb buttons with your little finger.) My actual solution is a Logitech G300

Even more difficult is finding a keypad that is either simmetric or left-handed friendly. I've pretty much given up on that.

If I could make a suggestion, Try one of two setups:

Set-up 1 - Reverse WASD: User Pl;' instead of WASD. It's just WASD bust swapped on the left side you also shift and ctrl are there, and the \ button works for tab.

Set-up 2: Map the controls to the keypad. The keypad even has arrows on the buttons, but it seems like 8456 would be a good place to put the WASD controls.

That's all I have to say.

Problem solved.
