I know how you feel and I had the same issue.
The only way was able to play the game was with an inofficial fix from the site Nexxusmods. Hopefully someone can remember which mod that was as this was a long time ago but at least I wanted to point out there is hope.
good thing I swore never to give bethesda another cent after fallout 4.
does 3/NV still work?
I recommend the Tale of Two Wastelands mod for 3+NV together.
Make sure, you back up or move anything on that drive that's important just to be safe and monitor it going forward.
Alternatively if you're suffering from stuff being deleted check your antivirus quaratined section and if there's any files there realted to this, make exceptions for them.
and I don't think that my hard drive potentially failing is to blame, the file wasn't corrupted it was gone... and it was recoverable through folder history further proving it wasn't lost due to corruption... it was simply marked as "deleted" within the file system.
hence why I was concerned about steam mucking around in the file system... but it was insisted it was for security or w.e.
idk how deleting steam is "for security".
You'd be better off getting a solution to your problem by 1) posting in the actual FO4 forums, and 2) giving more details of the problem/your system/etc.
(if you're using old mods, for example, the game got updated a few months ago, and broke some of the important ones. I finally got around to installing the updates that I needed, just now, and the game ran.)
Nexus is viral, full of bugs and their mods "expire".
Mods don't expire.
Not sure what that means.
Viral was never a thing, and the website was never that buggy.
Where did you get any info like that about the Nexus? Which wouldn't even exist any more if it was as bad as you think it is.
