With PC games this has been the case the past 30+ years.
You buy a car, you own it.
You buy a game, you apparently don't own it and your right to play it can be taken away at any moment.
*confused look meme*
You and others keep saying "you buy a game" but you don't and none of you even pay attention to anything being said. You buy a "LICENSE" to allow you to play a game, you NEVER buy a game.
I own my car. I can sell it whole, I can sell it piece-by-piece, I can destroy it and sell it for scrap metal.
I own my computer. I can sell it whole, I can sell it piece-by-piece, I can destroy it and sell it for scrap metal.
I can't sell my body. I can't sell pieces of my body. It's even illegal to kill myself or to have myself buried in a way not approved by the state. Seems to me that my body is not considered private property.
If you think everything is private property and subject to the same laws and regulations, then you are simply wrong. Sometimes, when you spend money, you are not buying private property. Sometimes, you are buying a limited license.
Its 2024, how is this still news to people? Did you just crawl out of your gooncave OP?
Please provide an example of a PC single-player game here on Steam that removed your ability to play similar to how The Crew removed your ability to play the game. It's the first example I've heard of. For me, this gentleman is the first to explain what happened:

Valve doesn't do this. I bought a Chinese knock off of Double Dragon https://steamcommunity.com/app/1093270/discussions/ that game.
I can still install and play it.
You can't buy the game and it was removed rather quickly. But it's still available to everyone who did spend money on it.
But none of this changes the fact that we own a license to play the game.
We're paying for long rentals. If you want true ownership, Buy Physical or get it from GOG.
