What a shock (steam banned in Vietnam)
Being a dedicated steam user, putting around 4.000usd into steam, gaming is one of the very few hobbies I have left in life, and steam is the beacon of it. Today I went out with my girlfriend, had dinner, talking shjt, laughing as usual then I went home, hoping to get a good gaming night to end the day in joy, then this happened and I was totally in distress. When will the world truly work as a whole? Like a system, each with their own strengths and weaknesses and just accept them instead of continuing to make war with each other over superiority? For example, my country, Vietnam will never likely to be able to have a gaming platform as good as steam or make games as good as rockstar, fromsoft or even ubisoft, so why not letting the people use the best products they want to use, regardless of the nations the products are from, why must force us to use domestic stuff when the stuff are low in quality, when will the world grow to achieve common good?

World is fine. Blame your local government on this.

That really sucks. It's a shame that things outside of your control messed with something you enjoy. I hope things get fixed for you

Your only hope is to move to a different country, or change your leadership. This has nothing to do with Valve or Steam, and no one else can help you, unfortunately.

Israel just completely blocked and outlawed Al Jazeera, an Arabian media outlet.
The US is trying its darnest to block TikTok.
EU (unsuccessfully) tried to block Russia Today and Telegram.

It’s funny how you had to literally name the axis of evil to try to counter this.

Al Jazeera is more than just an "arabian media outlet" it is funded by the qatari government.

The same government that silences critical voices and freedom of expression.

They literally still use and fully embrace slavery. Nice people. Oh, and the qatari government also openly supports and funds hamas... You think Israel is wrong for banning their broadcast in israel? Lol

Steam is an american company. Do you know why the american government is pushing to ban tiktok? Nothing to do with free markets all though i still dont agree with it, personally.

Not to mention RT and others we banned. "Pawnhub" in TX, and many others coming up the pike.

States, countries, nobody seems to be any better than others on these matters.

In fact China has their own Steam outlet (dont ask how they get theirs, and we don't) and i haven't heard Russia banning Steam.

In fact others on another hub is asking why they aren't banned.

The fact is, there is no such thing as the "free market". Markets are only as free as our governments allow them to be. And we all have our reasons on why we ban certain outlets. Even in the "Land of the Free".

these things are well known to all and our views on particular companies are not changed by the nationality or race of the company which is an unfortunately common sight

tiktok is still possibly going to be banned and hopefully one day steam is too

It apparently has nothing to do with race or nationality. It has to do with no free market at all in china and every chinese company has to do whatever the government tells them to do. Therefore, information collected by tiktok becomes national security issues... allegedly.

I know chinas strategy is to infiltrate every foreign entity they can which leads other countries to be suspicious of them. In my country there is an ongoing scandal that involves the chinese government and our current leader and election rigging. There have been standing politicians completely outed as Chinese spies in my country.

Sorry, dumb paywall:

Again, i dont agree with banning any company from operating in any country.
