The next Xbox console is expected in 2026
PS5 Pro is $700. No subsidisation. It used to make sense when dev cycles were 1,2,3 years. We’re seeing less AAA games this gen because they take 6,7,8 years to make. Back on the Xbox 360 we had the entire Mass Effect trilogy. If a dev started making their game at the beginning of this console generation it might not even be ready for release until the next generation launches!
That’s a lot of 30% on games they are not taking in to subsidise the console.
Plus, companies can’t take advantage of smaller, more efficient ships anymore during the generation to shrink the size of the console and cut costs. The old model is broken.
So the $700 price point would be the new low point, and your already at the point where for $200-300 more you got a full fledged gaming PC that can do what the console can and alot more. So kinda shows my point. Plus don't forget that $700 is more like $800 if you want a disc drive, then $60+ for each controller, etc.
Devs are also given toolkits to design their games before the consoles are available well in advance
And seeing how Controller went up in price such as $5, or more depending where one is from, I wouldn't be shocked if PSN plans also go up in price at some point as well, seeing that sony big AAA game flopped in sales concord.
Anyways just feel like PS5 pro is in a weird spot right now, and prices nearing $1k mark more then convinces people to opt for PC since it better long term, and must more manageable, and adjustable unless one opt for laptop then still long term, plus endless backwards play, with access to everything bought so kind of depends on the person what someone values more, what they want, or just trying to get cheapest possible way to get into gaming right away with less effort as possible. So give or take how those goes out.
Also to point out devs are given kits for the next gen before it release normally by 1 ~ 3 years, and that basically meant games can be made for current, and next, or just for next gen whatever devs plans to make their game for, or what they want for their game. Got "upgrade" gen under same gen basically slim & pro where some devs are given maybe a year before release of them if wanted to optimize game for release, or to help promote their pro system for showcasing to convince people to buy the pro. But again PS5 Pro seem to be in odd spot, and begs the question is it worth the extra $200 ~ $300 to the avg console player.
Yep, i mean when you look at other consoles adjusted for inflation its not that eye raising with buying power, but it is at the point where one would question do I get a PS5 Pro or just pay a a little more and get a gaming PC that can do more.
I wouldn't hold my breath for that. Not saying it's not coming out - it's likely a "Pro" version of sorts.
But the fact is that MS has nothing much in games, worse than Sony in many respects. Sure, they gave a decent pitch a short while back which did show promise of some interesting stuff, but promises mean nothing until they're released.
So I don't see any real point in looking out for the next XBOX as they are still lacking in developmnent.
I'd say both consoles suck and there's no point on getting any future ones. Both consoles barely have exclusives and both barely had games that used the full power/potential of both consoles to good use.
Games stuck at 30 FPS half the time or sacrifice visuals for a boost. Did many games come out at full 8k or whatever? I mean, I don't bother with that stuff so, curious. Faster load times? dude, I had to wait a good bit even while on an Xbox Series X. It's only a bit quicker, not super fast or instant like they claimed (my nephew on the PS5 had to wait a bit too)
They said a bunch of crap that just seems like lies to me. Xbox going the $600+ route with their "Galaxy" version and Cony with their $700+ PS5 Protato cash grab. Like catnip for the whales/sheep.
Seriously, no reason to get any future console, even if Xbox got Steam.... might as well get a PC and wait for every Xbox game to hit here.
Console only gamers can use their remotes and most console games are coming to PC, win/win? well, unless if you like Nintendo lol also, free online, no more PS + or Gamepass money drainers... and nintendos thing lol
It ain't a competition though.
Just because I was addressing the one point about the next Xbox, does not mean I therefore favour the alternative.
Rumours are that Microsoft are also working on a handheld.
Cool. And I said what I said. I was just speaking in general, sorry if you took it the wrong way.
There are console wars, PC vs console war so, it's always a competition to people. But that wasn't my point.
And did I say you favor PS/Nintendo or whatever? I guess I should be more clearer with what I say, since people tend to assume things and go way off road. Anyways. good chat.
Of course they are. They want to put themselves in the handheld market now. They see how well the Steam Deck/Nintendo Switch+ are doing. They definitely want a piece of that pie too.
So fair enough - I get what you mean.
Interestingly if MS come through with a handheld console, they could easily clean up as they have LOADS of old properties they can simply port over or tidy up. Look at how older games have been selling on the Steam Deck.
But knowing MS and the fact they can't operate properly or communicate with their own departments, I would expect they bring something out and still have no games for it and can't work out how to make it work.
Which properties do you think they'd port? and I agree. People love "nostalgia" and tend to pay for it. I just don't like when people get taken advantage of most of the time for "nostalgia" things.
Sorry, you mentioned "older games" and my mind went to "nostalgia" for some reason lol maybe not the point you meant.
I agree with this too. It'll be surprising non the less if they do end up releasing a handheld with no exclusive or so and it having issues/problems. Maybe a handheld upgrade a couple years afterwards.
By older games I mean anything from their DOS era onwards.
A large wealth of properties they own or can leverage other publishers into releasing. Much like has happened on the Switch.
I've thoroughly enjoyed having handhled versions of games like Star Wars KOTOR for example, or even something more modern like the Metro series.
But MS could go right back to some of their fondly remembered games from the DOS era. Basically there's no reason they couldn't hoist most of what's on GOG.
And i should edit and say "if true", being it seems they're going for more of a Steam Box type of console. Maybe it'll have Win 11. I'm seeing a lot of coverage about these rumors.
That would be useful for the GOG users (there are a lot) I can see the handheld selling well cause of this alone, plus having all your Xbox games, Steam + DOS era stuff and whatnot.
If they do it right, make an awesome, comfortable, wicked, powerful and affordable handheld, I might give it a go. Price... idk cause you have the Xbox Series X at around $500 and now the Galaxy at $600+.
How much do you think they'd charge for their handheld? and it better be something that doesn't need an upgrade a couple months+ in like the Steam Deck did with its LCD-OLED whatever upgrade.
$300+ Starting price. Just a random guess. I want one version, the real final version, not this/that versions that gives you more space or bleh.
Don't get too excited. Keep the hype at a minimum to low. Windows 11 though? I rather it just have the best windows version that works perfectly with Steam games. I just want to see how everything is, what it uses, how it works, how fast, this/that etc.
