Where did you hear that doozy of incorrect information from? You've never heard of the concept of contracting out to third parties? All a company needs to have to own whatever thing it is, is the IP rights to that thing. Or to boil it down to gaming, Sony don't own From Software, but Bloodborne is Sony's IP.
Seems Sony made a lot of deals for PS2-3 games where the developers got something from Sony (maybe they waived the 30% royalties or gave them funding). And Sony partially or fully owned the IP in return. Sony isn't the only one that does this. Nintendo contracts work out to third party developers all the time where they'd still be the IP owners. CyberConnect was going to do Metroid Prime 4. Rare did a bunch of Donkey Kong games and a Starfox game. Nintendo would own all of those things even though they don't own those companies.
But could they lock it on PC like they did for GoT or Helldrivers 2 I literally got my pre-order for Ghosts of Tsushima months for Steam refunded because of their PSN policy and I can not buy God of War Ragnarok.. I live in Serbia and I like Horizon Zero Dawn games.... Horizon Zero West was last that I got before they got that PSN agenda now I can not get any that require PSN because we HAVE NO PSN here..... and I really would like to play Stellar Blade I mean I had no option for Concord though I have no regret for that :)
If Sony are the publisher for the PC release, they could enforce their PSN requirements. But this all depends on who the publisher for the PC release will be. We'll just have to wait and see who the publisher will be.
I do hope you are right for Stellar blade but I am sad for Horizon games because I really like that franchise no matter that they uglify Aloy but still it is stupid from Sony to kill loads of part of market that not only has no PSN but for games that are only single player or have only small parts or no multiplayer or coop but mostly sungle player...
But still they are cutting off huge part of market... we litterally had Helldriver 2 as game of month in Computer magazine and now no one can play it on computer...
Uh. Lol wut?
That's the most random thing ever.
Unless they are involved in the video game space, that production company isn't going to win. A popular game out ranking their internet searches isn't enough reason for Sony /Shift Up to be forced to change the name.
I'll remind people of a similar example: Logitech is called Logicool in Japan. They couldn't have the Logitech name because a smaller Japanese company also involved in the same field existed prior to Logitech in the region.
Hadn't noticed it was a console exclusive... so it's a Sony title? It will come eventually.
