They take no stance on this, because it's supposed to be an open platform.

Its a platform where you can release your game on, regardless of what it's about.
There's no political agenda. It's an open platform to release your game on. It's neutral ground.

You can literally hide any game on the store that you do not want to see. It's very simple to do too.

Why do grotesquely ultra realistic violent games like Mortal Kombat and Sniper Elite exist?

The answer is the same for both: because different people like them. And honestly, I'd consider liking games that depict graphical violence and death far more worrying than enjoying a game focused on sex. But as I say, different people like different things.

Are you late to the party? Steam has been selling "adult only" sex games for like 5 years now.
There are thousands on the store.
And the reason "why" is simple, because they sell and a lot of users buy them.
Steam is a store and wants to make a profit so they sell what the market demands.

Same reason any product exists: there is demand for it. Porn is multi-billion dollar business and is ever growing.

Also Rule 34: If it exists, there is porn of it.

Better question would be why you enabled seeing porn games on Steam if they don't like porn as porn is hidden by default. You can remedy this self inflicted issue by hiding porn in your store preferences (disable Frequent Nudity or Sexual Content & Adult Only Sexual Content):

Why is any kind of goods being sold? Because of the basic principle of supply and demand. As long as there is sufficient demand for something, there will be a supply too.
