Valve, "Steam client WebHelper" high CPU usage, high RAM usage in IDLE.
I have no idea what is going on with this process, but only now I noticed that it consumed 2 GB of RAM (no RAM usage limit, or self-cleaning?) and was constantly using the CPU.

No animated effects are running. Hardware acceleration on and off (no difference). All Steam windows are closed (just hanging in the tray.). Not in the game.

Opening Profile page, or Activity, then closing the main window, Friends panel and 1 chat with a friend, all this already takes up 700+ MB, keeping it in memory and constantly keeps rising like in a loop.

I still have the Chrome browser open at the same time with 22 subprocesses, but even it does not use the CPU when idle.
I look at the Task Manager to see "web helper" uses 3-8% (up to 25% in short peaks!) of my CPU when idle on the desktop.

@Valve, what the hell is going on with the version of chromium browser you're using? Could you fix this in next update, please?:boomer:

P.S: I don’t need advice from the community on how to launch Steam with keys without a browser and other nonsense.

check the size of "achievements_progress.json" file under, steam\userdata\user id#\config\librarycache and post how big the file is.

also are you using steam client stable, or beta?

For additional context here, there's a known bug to do with the achivements_progress.json file in the regular (stable) Steam client which can cause the RAM usage of the webhelpers to get very large.

This bug is fixed in the Steam client beta, and it should roll out to everyone probably fairly soon; we're already overdue for a public client update, as they're usually released approximately monthly and the last one was March 7th.

hello

If the file size is 22kb , so the issue not comming from here i guess.
Have you try to clean the steam cache ? This feature can be done under the steeam setup paraméters.
If you still have problem after that, may be you can try to use steam://flushconfig like it's been explained here

No. In rare cases, this process stops using the CPU, but I have no idea under what conditions.
But in general, I'm waiting for a patch from Valve.

I prefer to always use Stable versions of programs.

302 ko seems a bit too heavy to me. Just delete the file while steam does not run , the file will be rebuild soon after.

It's so stable that it eats all of your RAM.
