Steam Summer Sale 2024
So for me personally, the summer is my favourite time of the year. I absolutely love the long days, the blue sky, and everything that makes summer summer. The Steam Summer sale has always been a part of that and so was always more than just a game sale, and I remember lots of fun, interesting events in the past such as the Saliens, the Grand Prix, the sticker album, etc, just something to make it unique and one of the stand-out events of the year. I used to look forward to it and would buy a few steam cards from Game in advance of the sale. So I was greatly disappointed when last year, aside from the seasonal badge and the trading card badge, it was almost the same as any other sale as there was no interactive element, no event, nothing like that. Just stickers and the two badges. Credit where credit is due, the artwork was nice, but still.

So I'm hoping that last year was just a one off and there will be something this year. I am ready to be disappointed though.

Sorry, just felt the need to express my views on the summer sale, does anyone else feel the same?

uhhh ok? I'm just waiting for 60% Persona 5 Royal sale for this one
I wouldn’t invest much hope in a sale event, but something would be nice.

Yeah I realise my view is maybe slightly on the unusual side. Though I can't get excited about the discounts as most games on sale will be for sale at some point within the next few months for the same, if not larger, discount.
A one off? Events haven't been part of Steam sales since a few years now. Which makes sense, I very much doubt they actually resulted in more sales or engagement, which obviously is the purpose of them. Such events aren't there "cause it's nice".

I don't miss them, but to me a Steam sale always has been about the games on sale, not whatever buggy event Valve undercooked.

check SteamDB to see your specific game's history and whether there's a pattern for larger discount happening or not

The last event was the riddle thingy in 2022, iirc. 2021 was the short stories, 2020 was the grand prix. So I'm still clinging on to the hope that 2023 was just an anomaly.

As stated. none of that stuff will come back. It's not needed as everyone knows about Steam now. Which is why they did it back then in the first place.

"Win every game on Steam"

(Steam Holiday Sale 2011)

We will never see anything like that again.

so i think those barren sales are a good sign actually because valve is a tiny company, the people making the logic for those events are the exact same people who would be adding FSR 3.1 to the Steam Deck or working on a new Steam Controller or a new VR headset. so I like seeing that they're keeping themselves busy.
