It sounds like you're describing a situation where there is account sharing and if Valve finds out then the account gets terminated.(And you just revealed this on their forum)

Make your own free account as soon as possible and use family sharing until you can get your own copies of those games in your library. The true owner of the 'shared' account should change their password and make sure nobody else logs in as them anywhere(including trade sites).
If you're the only one with access to an account then nothing weird should ever happen. Sharing login credentials leads to this situation and its difficult to lock down if there are multiple people who are responsible for the account.
Good luck and stay safe.

The market itself is safe. Nobody has ever gotten hacked through it, though through allowing someone else access bad things happen as you have seen.

If your account gets hijacked people can use the market to steal any money you have in your steam wallet. But that's not an issue with the market, it's an issue with getting your account hijacked. Getting hijacked is extremely bad and you should be trying your best to avoid it anyway, market or not.

If you have your own payment method, why don't you have your own Steam account? The need here isn't to persuade your family member that the market is safe, but that the two of you should be on separate Steam accounts.

well your either reading the wrong crap or being told the wrong crap.
Mr Newell does not have a loop hole to your credit card. It's as legit as a grocery store, all the usual laws apply with it. To think other wise is exactly ignorant.
When you give out your account info to 3rd party sites then expect to get brunt in many ways, including the Market here. You seem to like a dot com to yourself ^^
Wake up.

You should create your own 'free' account and apply your payment methods there. You can share games with your family via the family sharing feature instead. The market is perfectly safe, but I would not recommend using non steam trading sites.

You may not reveal, share or otherwise allow others to use your password or Account except as otherwise specifically authorized by Valve.

Marketplace is secure as long you use it as intended.
However, account-sharing can bring the account owner problems.

It sounds like you are underaged, and have much influence of PC, mobile, and payment card administration by your family.

Steam market is safe. What's not safe is going against Steam rules. You should create your own Steam account. And maybe bank account (not credit if you're underaged). Also affordable pass-as-you-go mobile plan.

If you don't have much trust gained from your family, tough luck.

No, this isn't the problem, my family member understands that my account is practically mine. He even said that he wants the account to be mine. So no, the main issue is not that the account is linked to his email. The problem is convincing. But thank you for your comment. I should have enough evidence to present to him so we can decide.

What he says or what it "practically is", is irrelevant.

Either the account was made by him and it's his, or it wasn't made by him and it isn't.
Steam Accounts are not transferrable.

If it's his then this is account sharing.

The main problem is convincing, not the account.

The account might become the problem if you publicly announce you're sharing it.

Valve can straight up terminate the account for account sharing.

The problem is still the account. If you have to convince someone else to be able to use the account how you want, then it's not your account, is it? Make your own Steam account and all your problems will go away.

the people your family member read about are more than likely those that fell for scams

without seeing what they read, though, no way we can possible say

there is also nothing we can do or say that would convince them anyways

we are users like you

anything we say is anecdotal or just plain suspect

as for the sharing bit

what hey are telling you is that is a bad idea to post that you are using someone else's account

that account can get frozen and closed because ti is against the rules to share like that

only really a problem if someone points it out to them (steam)

or you go to support without the right info

Your "family member" can't transfer/give you the account. It's against the SSA.
