So i have been banned from a game community.
Whether this is my own fault or not and the ban was/is justified, is irrelevant, what matters is when recieving this ban the game community moderater referred to appeal Steam support for overturning this ban which i did. However Steam support referred to appeal the ban with the moderater support of that particulair game community because, they may have additional rules to that of Steam own community guidelines.

What kind of stupid system is this?, where you get send from one moderator to the other?. Which additional rules apply you have to guess, because it is nowhere mentioned, and no one wants to help you because apparently you can make some stuff up and silence any dissenting voices by banning all permanently. Steam refuse to help you and so gaming community obviously.

I was polite in my comment, not rude nor namecalling but it was, and still is a bit of a controversial topic. Closing or deleting the topic would suffice imo. But my main issue is that Steam moderaters have no authority(seemingly) in those communitys and we are at the mercy and goodwill of those who could act with possible dishonest and/or malevolent intentions. Maybe a bit hyperbolic but this makes me a bit anxious to resume discussions in such communities. Because every ban gets on your shadowprofile and can be used against you to get banned from the whole community if you get enough bans in a short amount of time. Ofcourse this is a very unrealistic situation but it can happen. Certainly when you take the, Helldivers 2, AC shadow warrior, Baldurs Gate, and other happenings lately, in mind.

I think Steam should have the final say in all situations and authority, for they are the owners and therefore their guidelines that need to be followed, their need not to be other muddying the waters with their own rules.

They can have their own rules on their game hub in addition to the guidelines provided by Valve.

Valve does have the final say. And that means in their case the choice to give freedoms to the game devs/publishers and divert people there.

Why take matters in own hands when it's easier to delegate?

The notification is automated and will always direct you to contact support. Something that has been an issue for a long time.

If you are banned by a Valve moderator or support, then you use the link provided in the ban message.

If the ban was issued by a game developer or hub moderator, then you contact the game's developer or publisher (or a hub moderator) to contest the ban. The only exception for this is Valve games as those still go to the link provided in the ban message.

It's a stupid system where developers censor gamers at will.

Being held accountable is not "censorship"

It's a system which discourages non-constructive slander and bashing people all too often mistake for "criticism".

It's a system thats much much closer to authoritarianism than a marketplace of ideas.

You have to be REALLY NAIVE to believe these moderators aren't INTENTIONALLY manipulating discourse on their forums

I have criticized numerous games without being banned. How did I not get banned? I chose words carefully. I didn't use derogatory and demeaning adjectives and kept my tone POLITE and PROFESSIONAL. You can't expect developers to tolerate you if you're going to talk like a hick or worse.

What is derogatory and demeaning is subjective with moving goalposts.
What you claim is polite and professional (lmfao) could be construed as derogatory and demeaning to certain people.

AND........excuse me, why is ""professional "" a qualifier here? We're not in a professional setting.

ou can't expect developers to tolerate you if you're going to talk like a hick or worse.

Same guy who claims to speak polite and professional using a derogatory slur which is on the border of racism. .....

The people who try to lecture me to tow a line of censorship can't even remain consistent to their own stated virtues ..lol

See the difference? Of course you do. Sometimes the best way to demonstrate people what you mean is to show them what their language looks like to others. I've been all but kind to "Front Mission 2" recently, but never used demeaning words like the one you pointed out. So despite being rather harsh on the game, I wasn't banned, not even as much as warned . And same goes for all other games I've criticized. Don't use words like "your game is crap", "this mechanic sucks" etc and the developer WILL listen. Unless you're not the intended audience. I've criticized Guilty Gear Strive for watering down the gameplay and wasn't the only one. But that criticism fell on deaf ears DESPITE a polite tone. Because I and people who think alike are not the intended audience.

So what you are saying, is that Steam should be lazy and apathetic?

lol you can still be disappointed at something without name calling them or the product. lol if you fail to do this well then you clearly are the issue. i cuss all the time. used in most of my words but i can dislike something without using it as well. i am not angel and i have been banned from some game hubs because i called out the devs. now granted those devs are also banned from steam for their deceptive practices

Use a DICTIONARY. "Hick" is a derogatory term for someone from a backwater. It doesn't have anything to do with race or nationality. English, do you speak it?

It has a racial overtone as well.

You have no business lecturing anyone on behaviour.
