i think its a good idea only buying those games on a sale for 5 to 10 bucks.
I do have a GOG account with a few hundred games, but my "backup" in the case of some apocalyptic scenario where Steam get sucked into a black hole or something, I'll just take up sailing.
I also don't fear Steam going down anytime soon, so there is no actual reason to buy from two different store fronts at the same time.
If both games are available at roughly the same price, why would you buy on Steam where you feel you need to buy a backup instead of just buying on GOG?
