You can always check their recent activity on the profile page to see if the game was played, all assuming their game details are not private. Better yet, ask them.

Of course you can hide this way, and so they damned well should be able to as you should too.

Personal boundaries are a thing.

I sometimes go invisible when I'm on here simply because I either want to focus on some game, or I'm waiting for my tablets to kick in and don't wan to be bothered.

Many reason for people to want to do this - respect it.
