What is this stupid trend where developers do all the communication on Discord and dont use Steam forums as a place to share information? Discord is a mess and messages get drowned. Why dont developers (not all of course) use Steam to share information?

Example: there is this game, Beneath the mountain. I thought it was abandoned since there has not been any post from the developer for a time. Suddenly an update gets live and we get to know that the developer is only on Discord where he share majority of information about the game.

Use Steam forums. It is good enough.

Monkey See, Monkey Do... Gamers were the ones who decided long ago, for reasons beyond me, that Discord is a necessary evil... is it any wonder that the devs followed suit?... Discord is a cesspool of disfunctional persons and software... I mean, anything with a name like Discord should raise a red flag you'd think... the crApp lives up to its name...:-)

No it actually isn't - it's a toool like any other which can be used for good and bad.

Reddit's much the same and you often see people malign that too, except it depends entirely where you go and what you do. I've yet to have any experience on Reddit that isn't polite because I go to pages where that sort of thing doesn't happen.

The same goes with Discord. Devs use it because they can CONTROL it appropriately like anywhere else, so no it doesn't have to be as sweepingly bad as you claim at all.

Even worse are the devs who nuked their own ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ forums, to move entirely to Discord.

Bethesda, for example.


Discord is a nice communication tool, and worked great for meeting up with friends to play games during Covid. It is not a replacement for a forum with years of back posts to find answers in and tens of thousands of users.

Well, unless you're a developer who'd rather not have threads talking about problems with your games, searchable on the internet.

wait, you're telling me you're active in every single one of those 38 servers? and never met a single problematic user?

That is correct. but then again, none of the servers I am on, have any immature people in them. Like others have said. if one pops its ugly head up, it is squashed very quickly.
