Steam Shuts Down and Refuses to Honor Any Purchases- All Libraries Deleted Forever
The year is 2050. Steam has failed to compete with gaming on Neural Link/The Metaverse. Asa result of 15 years of declining sales, Valve has become insolvent and is shutting down Steam permanently. They announce that as much as they would like to make all game purchases available for download, they simply cannot continue to run their servers any longer. As of January 1st, 2052, all Steam games will disappear forever and all libraries will disappear.

What do we as gamers do in this hypothetical future scenario if it were to occur?

I'd be in my 80s. If I live that long. I dunno if I'd even be able to play video games.

You will, suince neural links means it won't require your frail weak organic joints.
by this time all games would become subscription pay per hour deal with cash shops
by 2050 if you can still buy eggs milk n bread at the store every day, you will be lucky , steam games are gonna be the furthest thing from your mind. also by then i think tv's an computers will be merged into 1 , offering users something we have yet to even dream of.

imagine 30 years ago nobody dreamed smart phones would exist and most people had big bulky sat phones in the 90's 30 more years of technology will be amazing.

i can't wait. hopefully your kids find better things to do then play games from 2010 in 2050. i get it though we are all still playing pac-man and astroroids.

Sounds awful...
sadly its where we are heading p2w and battle passes will be a thing in every game paid premium battle passes will replace looting entirely
I'll be wondering how steam managed to survive so long in the post-apocalyptic wasteland, then I'll watch my grandchildren get in the family dethwagn for another hunt.

Well, perhaps it's for the better if our kind ceases to exist...

It... It scares me to imagine what Humans would do to other planets, let alone other species once they reach a foothold in the final frontier.
money is power and we must serve it XD

That dude in the thumbnail looks like he's about to head through death's door...

I wonder how refined his driving skills really are.

Probably not much, but what matters is having fun :)

It won't happen overnight, the writing will be on the wall for years. So prepare accordingly, don't wait until the last day and have a shocked pikachu face.

It is literally against the rules to answer this in any other way than "Well guess thats that it was totally in the EULA. I love corporations and I would never go against them."

That said expecting America to still be around in a recognizable form past 2033 much less 2050 is super optimistic.

Doomsdayers need something to look forward to. When 2033 comes and goes they'll look at a new date.

Why 2033 specifically, did I miss something?
No. It's not one single event and could definitely shift. Just expecting the gradual ruin to pile up and stuff to start flipping seriously around then. Nobody under 40 can afford a home and they're all stuck paying $200/month in car insurance and EVERYONE hates each other in a super vicious way. It's not a long term country at this point, though, again, the year can definitely shift.

Ahh, so The Roman Empire all over again, got it.

These days we call it 'the cool zone'.
