I'm actually slighty surprised i didn't get banned for this too.
on other sites, "discussing moderator actions is a bannable offense" and that's just fascism right there. .i suspect that's so that people can't communicate to each other about the abuse.
in any event, i know none of us wants to
I have been a loyal user of theirs almost exclusively for 15 years, except when i'm playing retro games, that I OWN.
I've been gaming for 35 year and have an extensive collection.
I just still don't think i'm guilty of what i was being accused of, but meh. I dunno what i expected to gain from this thread.
We don't understand what you are saying here.
Are you saying you got in trouble?
I already explained it to you.
You handled this rather well, I'll give you that and that's good.
But you're still not getting something. I'll try and rephrase it.
You AGREE to the terms here. It's THEIR platform, so you HAVE to understand whatever they say and whatever they want, it goes. You AGREED to that.
So if they say "you can't do that" suck it up whether you think it was questionable or not. They tell you what part was wrong and you can deal with changing it.
If there is something you feel they got wrong, you can appeal, but if they still stick to it that's the end of it.
So what do you do? CHANGE YOUR WAYS WHERHER YOU AGREE OR NOT.
it's really simple. The thing is to be mature and not take it personally. It doesn't MEAN anything. You just don't do that in future. Simples.
That's nothing to do with what happened here
You have to add in a little
HOw do you know I wasn't joking either?
r/woosh indeed
I know full well there are rules.
but i've been here 15 years and have left 1000's of comments, but then i got 2x 24 hours bans within a couplemof days of each other, without even being given a warning.
they said it's because the content of the posts i made broke the rules, but i disagreed.
I don't think i did anything wrong .
they think i did.
i never promoted piracy, but they think i did.
just because i said a game can be found elsewhere for free, and that version was better than the one being sold, doesn't make me a pirate. I was not "promoting" piracy, just acknowledging that piracy exists.
but they think i was promoting piracy and i guess that's that.
the other ban was for "posting something that's likely to derail the discussion"
of which is also completely ridiculous.
the person above my comment said something to the effect that "the game would have had a female protagonist, but the devs feared the backlash, so they made the protagonist be male"
and then i posted a comment that "i don't get it why these men hate female protagonist? are they insecure or just trolling" and i got freaking banned for that!
look, i know there's another user in this forum a few threads down complaining that the mods banned him and he thinks he did nothing wrong as well, but the looking at his posts, he was in the BG3 forums spewing the "i hate female protagonist" nonsense and so yeah, i think his ban was deserved, but mine wasn't.
yeah, my bans have ended, but apparently, Steam remembers every time and makes the actions more and more severe each time, but still.
I did NOTHING WRONG!
but then it seems many of you disagree with me and think what i said deserved a ban, so yeah, whatever.
i'll just abridge my language some more.
welcome to 1984 . .i mean2024
As for "Welcome to 1984" you mean 1976?
It is not 1984. This isn't the government.
ALL private companies have always had the right to limit and run things how they wish. That's freedom to a tee.
Nothing has changed here. You just are being overtly defensive.
again, i didn't "suggest that people pirate the game"
the game being sold was literally just a gameboy rom repackaged in emulation software.
the develeoper was the true owner of the IP, so they do have a right to charge whatever they want for it.
the pint was the thread was discussing the price and how it felt overpriced for what it was.
I felt that the dev was doing a lazy port.
and i have purchased similar things on steam before.
I have Capcom's Megaman Legacy collections 1 and 2 in my library.
the difference here is that the megaman legacy collections add all sorts of additional "features" to make them distinct and not just nes roms being run on emulaton software.
the argument i made against the dev was that tey were being lazy, just packaging a gameboy rom in emulation software. a gameboy rom that has been available on the net for decades.
I never "suggested" that people should go over and look for that rom and download it from whatever sources it can be found at.
I suggested that if the dev is expecting money for their lazy port, they should have done a better job than just selling people a rom with emulation software.
this gameboy rom had multiple versions remade multiple times on next gen systems, and i criticized the dev for not including those next gen versions in their package.
this situation was clearly the game dev capitalizing off the rise in interest in retro games.
they didn't even try. they just said, okay, here's your 30 year old rom, but you're gonna pay AAA price for it.
I don't pirate games.
I don't want to pirate games.
I don't want the pirates to win.
but when game devs do this, i totally see why people do it.
I'm not telling anyone to do it or justifying it.
it's like whenever denuvo pops up, there's always someone who says "i hate denuvo" and then someone else is all like " if you hate denuvo, you must be a pirate"
or maybe. . maybe i'm not a pirate, but someone who doesn't like malware that creates backdoor vulnerabilities and is impossible to remove once it's been installed.
For Denuvo, you are probably thinking of the Anti-Tamper DRM, which doesn't install anything or even use any elevated privileges. Even the Anti-Cheat can be easily uninstalled.
again, everyone keeps insisting that i "encouraged" people to pirate the game.
explain the logic there?
I mean, i guess you can do mental gymnastics and twist anything to mean anything .
saying "yeah, you're selling something that can be found for free and if you want people to buy it, you need to make your version better than thenone that can be found for free"
is not the same as
"hey everyone, you should just steal it!"
edit :
when i google denuvo. I see 4 types of articles,
1. just talking about it affecting performance, of which i dunno. only game i ever played that had denuvo is south park fractured but hole. and the minimum specs on that are so low, i would likely not have noticed it.
2. that denuvo demands kernel level access. if that doesn't create vulnerabilities, what does?
3. denuvo does not uninstall itself when you uninstall the game.
4. arguments between people denying those other 3 things.
honestly, i don't know what to believe anymore anyway, there's so much fake facts on the internet , so i just don't even take the risk and i just deny myself denuvo games. those games are always overrated and overpriced anyway and that's probably why they have it, because they try to protect it but then the games that have it are higher priced because the devs have to make kickbacks to denuvo to have it in their game, when it's not even protecting it anyway.
basically, i got banned for pointing out the flaw in the business model and criticizing devs for their high prices
