"p" word vs Ninjas fest
are we even allowed to say the name of this event?
given that you can get instabanned for saying that word, or even when not saying it, just hinting at the word through subtext and euphemisms. . .

Sounds to me way more like he's hinting to the fact that the devs should actually do their job and up their game by making a higher quality product.

The "the exact same product could be found for free elsewhere" argument is starting to get a lot of traction and is probably going to be one of the next metaphorical big fight between consumers and producers.
Frankly it si a valid argument but it's not going to be the next big one as it's ALWAYS been a valid argument right back to the 1970s. I've seen it for decades.

But it's how you phrase it and you always run the risk of it being against the terms because you're butting up against being antagonistic.
I know it has always existed. What I am saying is that it is getting more and more popular right now.

I don't agree to report abuse, incompetent support that cannot detect context, double standards, hypocrisy, bad business practices of mistreating, abusing, users and customers in retaliation over nonsense. THAT'S NOT WHAT WE AGREED TO.

ffs Valve allows an app called SpaceWar app/480 why isn't the word SPACEWAR banned VALVE? Arrrrrrrrgh! https://steamplayercount.com/app/480

Lets make some money Valve. Lets have a Developers vs Spacewar Fest!

Pirates of the sea isn't the same as a person in their homes going to a website to commit game piracy, even if they both steal.

Global moderators generally don't care anyway and if you endorse the latter it seems, especially since it's now seen as a form of political protest.

Sorry I see no evidence that is the case.

And you believe anybody here is going to provide you some, considering we all know we'd get banned for it?

Let me say it this way tho: every time you see extremely bad PR situations (there has been a lot of it lately) or extremely dumb decisions by AAA companies, like for example the latest probably being Sega locking New Game + behind a pay wall for their next Yakuza game... This concept get more and more popular among the normal gaming community.

Why? It's not against the rules.

To provide evidence of this being said is not a breach. It sounds like you're dodging.

well, all i said was "such and such game can be found elsewhere for free. the free version is better than the one being sold. if the dev expects to be payed money their product, it has to be better than the one found for free"

this is literally what i said, and they told me i was "promoting piracy"

and then i appealed it and the other one was like "nope, we reviewed it and we see that the ban was applied correctly. there was no abuse of power"

i never told anyone to steal it.
i never claimed i stole it.
i never said "where" to get it or how to get it.
all i said is that it can be gotten elsewhere, so the dev has to offer a better version if they expect people to pay for it.

apparently, just suggesting the obvious fact that everyone already knows that something can be "gotten elsewhere, for free" is promoting piracy?

I mean, even to me at least with the context of only "If the devs expect to be paid money for their product, it has to be better than the one found for free" sounds A LOT like you're hinting at people to pirate a game.

You don't have to tell people how, or where they can do it, just telling them its an option is basically promoting it. So its probably best to just never mention it as an option or that it could happen.

The funny thing is that I've seen people doing that in various reviews. Reported said reviews, nothing happened... well at least I never got one of those "thank you" messages mentioning reviews.

Valve doesn't want any threats to their HQ is my theory.

Basically it's the same. Look who's talking. Pirate in Greek (peiratēs) is, actually, a robber... ninja, I'm suspecting, or monk (sintoism, their most popular religy) or temple warrior.

If only I know not quite everything about the topic. More likely that in some century rulers decided to call piracy a robbery on sea. Now digital. We all know what will be next... maybe not that next

again, for clarity, this was hyperbole. me venting frustration.

look, i know there are rules, but i thought the response and the action taken against me was overinflated.
they could have given me a warning first.

yeah, it was only a day that i wasn't allowed to post, for just a day, but now it's on my record and i'm being told that the next time, the response is gonna be even more harsh..
like, what's to stop them from going back through 15 years of over 10k posts and cherrypicking something else to get me for.
I know i can't go back through 10k posts to abridge myself.

that's why i stated about how i've been here for 15 years and I'm a respectable person. I never spread hate speech, but then yeah, sometimes i do fall for bait.

also, in regard to the specific first case scenario. . .it was a bundle pack of some 30 year old game roms that the dev just did a lazy rerelease of it and wanted to charge triple A price for it.
it was an just old console roms being run on emulator software and the "better product" i referred to was the emulation software.

the game had also had updated remakes made of it and i thought that if the dev is gonna rerelease a 30 year old game, they should have bundled in all the updated versions of the game in there too and they should have at least used "good" emulation software, with all the features that the "good" emulators have.

this is the "better product" i was referring to.

the "better product one could get for free" was the emulation software, of which emulation is not piracy. emulation is perfectly legal as long as one owns the physical copy of the game being emulated and is not distributing it.

and i clearly stated i was willing to pay for it. I don't steal games. I pay for them.
the message was to the devs to make it worth it to me to want to pay for it

so the only thing i was promoting was telling the developer "git gud"

I am not a pirate and i believe that the only way to beat the pirates is to offer a better product than they do.

The rules about piracy of games have been relaxed slightly over the years on Steam.
Especially with the legalized emulators some video game releases on Steam come with.

Also, the word pirate has never been forbidden.
Only actual discussion of piracy.
