Oddball censorship of benign subject matter and jokes
No bans will be referenced.

However, it has occurred to me, over the course of two prematurely ‘locked’ topics on the matter, that Steam’s rules must be updated to include ‘we do not have a sense of humour’, so that one can avoid conflict with ‘The System’ and those who police it.

Specifically, I request that Steam includes, in its rules, examples of jokes that are ‘offensive’. I take one from reality here, where calling a poster an ‘old man’ in jest, while also confirming that you’re likely the same age, is unacceptable.

As this is normal ‘jokey’ discourse here in Ireland, there’s a degree of ‘cultural shock’ to having something so tame be labelled as inappropriate.

Secondly, self-depreciating jokes about one’s own race – I’m blue-eyed white Irish, and made a joke about white girls not being ‘cute enough’ – is also apparently not acceptable, and I would like this example included in the rules, as anyone from my country would likewise label this as tame.

I note in another thread here an individual referred to me as an ‘idiot’ and also as one ‘living in mommy’s basement’ (multiple times), with no repercussions.

As these jokes are clearly permitted, I would like them added as examples to the Steam rules of ‘permissible jokes’. I have also seen people allowed to express ‘incel’ and ‘bigot’ without repercussions: these appear to also be ‘permissible jokes’, and I would like that clarified.

PS to the guy who kept saying I live in ‘mommy’s basement’: the old house I bought initially cost 450k and has been modernised over the course of a year with an additional 300k+ investment. It continues to see further upgrades, and certainly the heat-pump powered temperature of the living room in which I type this (complete with heat-recovery vents) is by no means reminiscent of a ‘basement’. Particularly with the immense photowall ‘mural’ I recently had installed and the luxury tiles.

Cheers.

Glad I am not the only one watching this thing unfold while munching fresh and sweet popcorn

Waiting for annoucement for season 2

'Pineapple' only appeared when you quoted him (her...they???) - must have blocked them at some point. Couldn't be bothered adding them to the blacklist array of my el-customo-blockio-el-scripto, but welcome to the permio-blocko-on-the-choppo script 'qbert'.

Truly it's only because you placed a star beside your moniker tho.
I don't mind the blocking, I will keep reading your rollercoaster of changes, edits and 180° turns to make my popcorn even sweeter

And the star? Nothing but an old joke among friends that end up sticking

Just based on the threads I've seen here the last few days, I have serious doubts about "benign subject matter". And "jokes."

---
In the end, 90%+ of "omg, I was unfairly banned" posters, totally deserved it when you look at their post history.
Or even better yet. They proceed to display the very same behavior that got them banned in the first place inside their rant threads.

That's an absolute classic.
My spider sense is tingling.

Ok, nevermind...
Eventually they will have everyone who doesn't agree with them blocked and the only replies they will see is yes men who tell them that they are in the right.

One of these days I hope to understand this weird entitlement people have where they expect Steam mods to ban people for saying things they don't like to hear. Very strange behavior.

'Friends of woke' don't see words. They just see 'are they onboard with The Message'.

Yeah no one is.

My money's on 'dah woke' lasting no more than 1 year max.

Look what's happening to disney lol.

The Marvels?

Haha.

Anyway, you ppl can go have you thing. None of the rest of us want anything to do with it.

"none of the rest of us", implying you anti woke (what ever that is still supposed to mean) are some kind of super majority or something.

Exactly: "Not me guv'na" holds not validity when post history shows the opposite.

Reminds me of this:

I wonder how these people deal with discussions irl, do they call the police when others disagree with them?
Hey, weren’t you that guy who had like 6 alts trying to argue about how BG3 was “woke” or whatever and flamed a bunch of people who called you out?
How could anyone find "old man" offensive? Men are great, and birthdays are even widely celebrated.

Pretty sure "relax guys, it's just a joke" hasn't worked since like the 90's...
Did it ever work? I have my doubts.

It was a different world in the '90s. People generally were not possessed by the sense that they had a full-time responsibility to correct each and every stray syllable that rubbed them the wrong way. Or indeed try rubbing those syllables every whichaway in order to discover a displeasing one.

If you’re talking about SnuffSaid/IvanDrago/BarryBarrington/WokeCenshopshipDoesn’tWork et al – yeah, I agree strongly with the dude’s opinions. He’s disconcertingly sane – as in, we’re talking about BG3 Steam forums here.

However, I see the ‘source a/c’ is that of a British guy (SnuffSaid, by my guesstimate) – and proudly British, based on passed comments.

I’m Irish mate.

Do the math on whether these are my ‘alt’ accounts.

If I’m to be honest, this guy just sounds like a normal bloke you’d meet in the pub – he just happens to play games (no one I know plays games, and I know many, many lads from many, many different groups).

IMO, if I ‘forced’ any of the normal people I hang out with – or ‘bump into’ in the pub every weekend – to just watch the wokier BG3 scenes – especially the ‘inclusive’ bear sex (rock on, you friends-of-bestiality) – they’d talk exactly like this guy.

He’s a normal dude, who seems to have just stumbled into the la-la-land that is Baldur’s Woke, and has tried to rationalise it.

Huge mistake.

The moderators there are fanatical about this game – clearly – and have massive, superlative bias against even tamely conservative opinions.

Can’t even say ‘think Trump’s iffy in some ways, but reckon he’s smart’ without that being angrily deleted!

Lmao

What is with that squire?
Don't post scripts that are designed to break the rules on Steam.
Good grief.

Basically hacking Steam to abuse the block feature and delete everyone from being able to even reply to them, with deleting their message as well, is not allowed.
Ever.

You need to stop creating an echo chamber.

Hilarious. This is probably the exact reason why I’m being banned by the dumb-as-planks BG3 Steam mods:

Junior Steam mod: ‘He’s just posted a script that changes peoples’ profiles to include a checkbox to–’

Manger Steam mod: ‘What? WHAT? Is he breaching our systems?’

Junior Steam mod: ‘Yes! He’s modified the application – I’ve tried the script myself.’

Manger Steam mod (blood pressure at heart attack level): ‘Ban this mf!’

What the script really is: a client side script. Only works in the browser YOU OWN. It modifies absolutely nothing to do with Steam. You are legally permitted to manipulate whatever you download in a browser re: a UI and what it does.

The script is simply a more intelligent version of Steam moronic UX decision to allow people to ‘show’ a blocked user. How is that going to prevent forum wars? How stupid are they – of course people are going to click ‘show’ out of interest.

Also, the script simply allows you to erase anyone you don’t like from even being quoted by others (though you must hard-code the names into the blacklist array).
