stupid new trend
I am getting really tired of the new trend in alot of games now, seems especially bad in RTS, where its more of a Loss Mitigation exercise than it is a actual fair chance at a game.
I can see starting out that way but games like Aliens Dark Descent and WH DaemonHunters just make the games completely unenjoyable with the player being at a constant severe disadvantage. thought it was just me getting bored with the titles but many reviews saying the same thing.
i guess we just don't have the same level of game developers that we used to. i wonder if we will ever get that back.

Thats the fun of those games is that they're not easy. Some players actually want a challenge, as most rts games are too simple and easy that its repetitively boring how predictably easily they can be to win.

So the “new trend” is …. difficulty?
nullable 2024 年 1 月 23 日 上午 11:12
Is the game poorly reviewed because it's unwinnable? Or are you just salty because you can't face roll every level of every game in a genre.

Yeah man, different games might have a learning curve, and game play mechanics, and maybe your cheese strategies don't translate into every game may not be a game problem.

Well take heart, rose tinted glasses over the quality of developers now versus "back then", won't ever go out of style among disgruntled users.

There where rts back in the day too in which you not only mass produced your strongest units to overrun the cpu enemy.

If you don't like those games which limit your numbers, don't play them.

Apparently so, especially considering the success of games like Dark Souls, Elden Ring, Sekiro, etc.

Frankly Idk who has the time to "get good" at these sort of games, I tried to get into Dark Souls & Sekiro but I just die over & over to the first boss in both games. I have a wife and family & 2 jobs I don't have blocks of time to waste getting frustrated trying to figure out how to kill the first boss in a video game who is able to just kill me in 1 or 2 hits.

And I'm not saying this to denigrate folks who are good at these games and get the full experience and joy out of them I just wish I was and I could too lol.

i think they're asking for their hand to be held through games that are too hard lol. games should challenge you. so nothing wrong with it.

That's because so called AI doesn't exist, so computers always cheat in games.

"AI" opponents in games are made to be beaten. They're not like human players. The challenge in fighting them in RTS games is usually figuring out their algorithm and patterns and beating them. Because an actual AI opponent would be unbeatable by a human player, since the AI can micro-manage every single unit, calculate the ideal build order and thus would always out-react and outpace the human player.

I completed Dark Descent at launch and it was fine. I found it quite tough at first, and I had a few missions go horribly, but I stuck with it and eventually finished the game quite comfortably.

It's like a survival horror game in the way that you're supposed to struggle. I mean the whole theme of the game is a small team of marines stranded on a planet infested with overwhelming numbers of deadly Xenomorphs. Having your favourite marine lose an arm, causing a panicked evacuation to the APC is part of the fun.

One game putting you off with high difficulty happens. If it's starting to become a trend then I'm afraid to say it's a you problem. Some games simply require you to go into them ready to fail, and more importantly ready to learn. If you're not prepared for that, then there's no shame in playing on the lowest difficulty.

Surprisingly if you look beyond only 1 game you can see we have the same level of game developers as there have always been.

Well, yes and no. I kind of agree and I dont too.

I personally don't like these sort of games on the whole. So I avoid them.

But here's the thing. There's plenty of genres that I love and others I don't.

When games were created I loved so many new arcade games. Loved it when Space Invaders came out, and successive shooters. Then Pac Man came along and blew my mind again. Cool, maze games.

And so on.

But around the early to mid 1980s, beat em ups became a new genre and I disliked them greatly. Still do. They just do absolutely nothing for me.

But here's the thing - should they not exist. ♥♥♥♥ no. Create more because people do like them.

There's still plenty to go round.

So I'd say be happy that people are finding new ideas and genres to create, but don't sweat it over the fact you don't like them.

Yeah, that kind of dread is the appeal in such games. Sounds good, btw, might check it out after all. Aliens is not a franchise I care about usually (movies neither, mind), but a fun game is a fun game.

Agreed. I myself am not particularly good at various RTS games because they often get made with a rushing AI on higher levels and I'm simply not quick enough with my build queues and such. So in some I drop it a level to even that out, so to speak.

The way I see it, the more difficult a game is, the better. Beating it will take more hours, so more bang for your buck. On the other hand, my opinion is that every game should have an easy mode too, because some people will simply refund a game if they find it too difficult.

Thanks for the rant.
I personally enjoyed it.

More needs saying, but the repercussions make it a delicate affair.

Peace :steamhappy:
