What is a game you have private? If it isn't working, I should be able to see it in your game list.
Or if you have the developer functions enabled you can simply copy the url from the application and save the browser login hassle to check your profile status.
If you want ot see what other people are seeing, use the steam website in incoginto/private mode. For example, if you set your profile to profile, you can see your profile contents, but other cannot. As such what 'you' can see is not necessarily what other will see depending on your privacy settings.
View your profile in a web browser, with out being signed in. If it worked, then you shouldn't see them.
Games list is locked behind the login.

Thanks to both, looks like the feature works fine then, steam just needs to implement some sort of feature like a “view as public” so that people can verify what their settings are looking like to everyone else.
