Ratchet and Clank
With Sony releasing the newest Ratchet and Clank game on steam and many developers releasing PC versions of their PS2 trilogies is there any information on Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal being released on PC? I haven't seen anything about it, but would love a release. I actually purchased their re-release that was created for the PS3 and loved it, but we still don't have a PC version without emulators.

Both are difficult. I'd say the PS3 is more difficult, but there's a lot of stuff with the PS2 emotion engine that has issues.

You're misunderstanding though - you may see plenty of games that also had PS2 ports on here. But that does NOT mean they were ported from PS2 code. That's the point.

They were likely third party games that were developed on base systems and then ported over to PS2 as regular development tends to go (and likely multiplatform too).

This was ONLY released on the PS2 so likely strictly on PS2 dev kits, so you would have quite an uphill struggle to convert everything.

That's the point.
Not that I disagree, but the example given (Metal Gear) was a Playstation Exclusive until it's last installment.

I do believe that it was rebuilt from the ground up for the port, however.
Yes because there was a massive demand for it.

That's the distinction. And no it was not purely built on pS. It was already ported to other systems so they had code. The Gamecube one for example.

So it may have been they didn't directly do it on the PS1 development (or PS2) kits either. They may well have done it on some base PC like system before that. I don't know the details.

But the point is even if this were the case that they did not, there's still a massive gulf in demand.

There's also the other issues like their plans - they would be more likely to remaster the first 3 as a bundle and turn them out, but as they've already remade and revisioned the first one, it kind of makes their plans redundant.

So there's a multitude of reasons why I can't see it.

Extremely unlikely.

Just because Sony are working on building and releasing current gen games on PC, does not mean they're going to go back to old games in their catalogue.

Up your Arsenal was a PS2 game. These are notoriously problematic for getting to emulate. So sony would have to look at the game and judge whether there's enough of a market to warrant going back to it, digging out the source code (if they still have it), getting someone to work on it to bring it up to snuff, and test it for modern systems, and then release it.

And that's extremely unlikely as it's never likely to warrant those sort of sales to recoup that.

PS2 hard to emulate? I was under the impression that PS3 was the difficult one. I have seen many PS2 series being ported to PC, but most of which aren't pretty much owned by Sony similar to Insomniac... The most recent Metal Gear releases from Konami come to mind, even if they are considered... Unimpressive.

Agreed, I don't know what the demand for Ratchet and Clank is. I'm sure that there is more of a demand for it than most realize, but I doubt it's enough to invest significant amounts of money.

Personally I think Steam should get rid of every game I don't own and replace it with Racket and Clank. Such amazing, fun, and just enjoyable games. I couldn't imagine playing them on PC though. They are sofa games.
