So when do we get Windows-12 or higher?
I just posted wondering in Windows-10 and Windows-11 will go at the same time, but a related question is when will they release something higher than Windows 11?

Windows-11 is so much more evil than Win-10, I'm guessing they're going to want to push us onto it ASAP. But...
  • On one hand Steam was dump'ed OS's in pairs: XT+Vista together, then Win-7 and Win-8.1 together...
  • But on the other hand they can't really dump Win-11 until there's a Win-12(+) or higher...

So anyone have any guess as to when the next MS-Windows Abomination MIGHT launch?

I hate to think about it, but am trying to deal with this torturious Steam upgrade so I hopefully can go several years before it happens again.

UPDATE: Someone said a rumor is 6 months due to a possible Beta... but I think that might be ultimately just pushed as a Windows-11 update and not a new OS version.

It's all about educating yourself instead of relying on an ocean of misinformation. Every operating system to exist has its bad points, it's up to you to learn how to adapt them to your needs to learn how to disable things you don't want.

I am personally eager to test the normal release of Windows 12, since got to see an enterprise preview that looked encouraging two months back. But per normal, I'll keep to my dual boot of Windows+Linux, since done it for decades so get the benefits of both.

No one knows.

It's up to Microsoft - and frankly I hope (Win 12) its a year or two out before they do.

Sigh. So far Steam ONLY EVER pulled support for an OS after the OFFICIAL support had been stopped for multiple YEARS.
They pulles XP/VISTA 4 years after the Microsoft support stopped, they now pulling Windows 7/8 also 4 years after offical support stopped.
Windows 10 is sheduled to be supported till October of 2025 by Microsoft, so the EARLIERST Steam will no longer support it is around 2028/2029.
Windows 11 has no "end of official support" date yet.

You will be fine for years to come with Windows 10 on Steam and even longer with 11.

Take it for what it's worth

Windows 12 Release Date: When Will It Be?

Microsoft is planning on releasing Windows 12 in 2024, according to credible reports. Microsoft is on a yearly release cycle where major updates are released in the fall, so we would expect Windows 12 release date in fall 2024.

ahhh delightful, the bitterness is extremely gratifying to read.
Perhaps you should go over to Linux, OP?

As you've been told repeatedly -back up your information with source material or stop misinforming people.

Dude's right though, we don't know whether the next Windows will be called "Windows 12". And yeah, it could be "Windows Fluffy Unicorns" for all we know. Just look at Microsoft's naming/version history:
Windows 1 Windows 2 Windows 3 Windows 95 (actually Windows 4) Windows 98 (still Windows 4) Windows ME (still Windows 4) Windows XP (actually Windows 5) Windows Vista (actually Windows 6) Windows 7 (still Windows 6) Windows 8 (still Windows 6) Windows 10 Windows 11
... and that's before we dive into the whole thing with 2 vaguely related products co-existing, both called "Windows", for a couple years throughout Microsoft's history. Calling for soruces when someone says "we don't know for sure" is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dumb, bruh! Chances are, the next Windows will be "Windows 12". Chances are, it will be something else entirely.

He's notoriously cocky/random and makes things up.

Until such time Microsoft says something - its Windows 12.
And they may skip it all together like they did with 9.

Oh yes it exists. It was a colossal failure but it exists.

Windows 9 already existed with 95 and 98.

Play the ball, not the man. Dude said "we don't know anything for sure". That is the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ opposite of "makes things up". Pro tip: if you're so eagier to disagree with someone, you reply to the literal opposite of what they posted, you got a bigger problem, then someone being cocky.

Now it is you who make things up. Until Microsoft says something, it's "the next version of Windows we don't know what it'll be". Anything else, you're making up. You're criticising someone else for what they're not doing but for what you're doing. This is bad.

Hehehe - that's one of the major reasons it failed by the way.

All of the software/infra was written to check for Win 9x - among other reasons.
Classic case of Microsoft coding themselves into a corner.

Ask Microsoft, they can tell you.

I'd be down for the name Windows Fluffy Unicorn. :cozybethesda::steamhappy:

no... don't ask M$... 'Windows 10' was touted to be their last OS before it launched... that of course didn't turn out to be true...

what they really should do is release a 'Windows Universe'... you'd have the ability to choose from ALL versions of Windows upon Start Up... no Compatibilty Mode ain't the same... I haven't gotten to 11 yet, but 'Windows 10' is by far the worst of them... it's as though M$ has long forgotten what the 'P' in PC stands for... Personally, I don't want my OS thinking for me... with each subsequent version M$ has slowly stripped away the interactive element and turned PC's into essentially Televisions... Commercials and all... it's long past the Point of No Return...:-)

That wasn't even said by Microsoft, that was a bunch of "journalists" quoting each other.
