Won't go in too much details but I really need to talk to someone with details knowledge of the Steam platform, for download issues I am having.

OMG, I am so thankful for all the good advices I am getting. Unfortunatly, a lot of those I already tried. This is not a router issue, I eliminated this trying to connect outside my network using my phone data as a hot spot. Did a fresh re-install of my entire system, erasing the main drive and installing Win11. Did a fresh install of Steam client BUT linking to my old games folder (that may be the problem...), installing on another computer is an option I need to try.

Crunchyfrog I like your troubleshooting! And I like everybody's input. When troubleshooting, every ideas counts, good or bad.

I can't beleive I am have such a hard time. I have over 200 games installed, think about it. Everything was going fine before!
Hold up - something occurs to me by what you've said there.

You've said you have "downloading issues" and I think we may be barking up the wrong tree. I assumed you meant you couldn't downlload, but if you're linking to your old files on your old hard drive then it may be that Steam simply isn't seeing them and that's not what you mean about downloading.

So can you detail more precisely EXACTLY what the issue is here, step by step?

Tell us what you're trying to do using one game as an exmaple, from the moment you start Steam.

The download problems started before the new installation. More than a year ago. Following your advice, I installed Steam on another computer (let's call it C2) in my house and there are no problems at all. Download works fine. On my old one (C1), funny thing is when there is a Steam client update, there is no dowload issue. So I am starting to suspect that the second drive, where my games are, is giving me those issues. Maybe replacing that drive with a new one...

I'm going to need a bit more detail as I think you're still missing what I'm asking.

I'm asking for a step by step description of what you do and what happens.

Something like:

I boot up Windows, and start Steam. It displays <this> and then it logs into my account. I then do this and go to my library and try to download...... blah blah.

Tell US EXACTLY step by step what you're doing and what's going wrong.

Very simple: Start the computer (no pasword or login), start Steam client (sometimes there is an update), go straight in the downloads and see that it is trying to download game updates or new ones. I get in red No Internet Connection or the other error can be Cannot Contact Servers. I don't know how much details you need. I think in my past comments there is a lot to cover the issues. Sometime, once in a blue moon, it will start dowloading and stop forever after 150-200MB. And I mean, once a month...

I just wanted to be clear as a few things you said were a bit confusing. DSidn't want us to offer advice that was unnecessary.

So yes, it does indeed sound like we'd previously gone over so I'm sorry for asking for more details.

All you can really do is go through by process of elimination EVERYTHING in your house from between the outside world to the connection to your computer as I previously said.

As I sais, the new hard drive is my ultimate solution. I feel I exauhsted eveything. I work in a big corporate electronics company and I am renouned for being a good trouble shooter. Not to repeat myself but after over a year of reading and trying things to solve that issue, that last piece of the puzzle I feel is that hard drive... I will post back here once I go over that part.

By all means go at it, but as I said, from what you've told me the problem is clear where you should go next.

You've determined it can't be your ISP (and therfore outside of the house onwards) as you've tried more than one connection.

You've said that you've used different PCs so it shouldn't be your PC or hard drive (unless you've used that on both - but that still doesn't make much sense).

So it really only leaves the bit in the middle - between the wall of your house and to your PC. EVERYTHING in between that.

Id' get to replacing or changing out EVERYTHING one by one to eliminate the possibilities.

Bought a WD black. It's on its way. Sure the problem is something in my PC as I tried on another one in the house and it works fine. Anyway, a new drive will be more than welcome in my case. Thank you again for your help on this. I will report back here is the HD switch was successful.

Good news. New hard drive in place. Re-installed Steam pointing the dowloads to it. I am re-downloading all the games, at elaset the ones I want to play. Not transfering from the old Steamdata folder. Even if I am loosing game progress, at this point, after more than a year stuck with this issue, i am just happy that everything is back to normal. Of course, I am touching wood here ;)

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
