Red Dead Redemption II winning labor of love is by far the most terrible decision. The games barely had any updates and content since release. Meanwhile games like Deep Rock Galactic continue to get shafted even though they fit the category in every sense of the word.

It's a flawed system because you don't even have to have played any of the games to vote for them, and most people haven't played every game or even most in a given category. I would bet a large percentage of people that voted for Starfield haven't played much else in 2023.

Steam Awards have been a joke for a while but last years takes the cake.

Those awards are useless anyway. Valve just want "activity" on Steam and give people a little treat when they choose games for them. And it is free advertising.

Yes, Red Dead 2 winning labour of love does seem bizarre seeing as there have been no DLCs or additional content since release and RDO has been abandoned for a while now.

I guess people didn't read the award description before nominating or voting. For what it's worth, I always nominate ESO, there's a game worthy of a labour of love award.

Using the same 20 year old engine and plays like oblivion, very innovative.

Oh, it was innovative alright. It took the gameplay loops of The Elder Scrolls and No Man's Sky, cut out their innovation in their respective genres, mashed them together, and added loading screens. That is innovation in "How do we take extant gameplay and make it significantly worse?"
