Sick of kill, maim, mutilate, jump, shot, bomb, hop, skip, and kick games.
There isn't a single game on Steam (or anywhere) that I can find that does:

1. Explore for the sake of exploring
2. Discover, identify, research, and use to create something that doesn't kill
3. Build but not consume everything in sight as an objective
4. Interaction that doesn't lead to war
5. Purpose to learn how to progress without killing someone/thing

I'm not necessarily a pacifist, but I'm just so sick of the same old, shoot and kill games ... even when I look for a resource based strategy game there is always the "kill" and build defenses element.

Are game designers really so unimaginative or is their design contoured by an unimaginative public/gamer/consumer? Surely some game designer has the guts to take a risk ... I can't believe I'm the only one that wants something more than shoot/kill to progress?

Yes I'm old, gaming back to text based Colossal Cave Adventure and Zork (look it up) before any sort of "graphics" were even a possibility and played on a University Computer in their lab. I've seen the game industry just follow the same game design pattern of shoot and kill and reward, add some better graphics, rinse and repeat ... over and over and over.

We can do better?

19 years on Steam and can't find any games.

There's also over 50,000 games on Steam so I don't believe your claims at all that there is nothing that you can play that suits your criteria.

The moment you include building things and complain about needing to acquire materials you've basically asked for an impossible game. There are plenty of games where you need not kill anyone, but asking for not needing to chop down trees and similar is a no go because part of the game loop there is typically replanting and exploring for additional sources while stuff recovers.

First of all, if the profile picture is yours, you are not old at all. You're just a grown man and that's not a shame or a problem, it's a fact. I am 38 years old, so I am no longer a kid like most of the players on this platform. Steam is for everyone, young or old. Secondly, I think you have formed a rather bad opinion about the games of this platform and ended up in a disappointment that is unfounded... I think you have lost sight of the most important aspect: the products on Steam are just games, no more! They are meant to entertain you, to relax you and should not be taken too seriously! Regarding the kind of games you mention in your post, as others have said, the platform has enough games from all categories and for all tastes! I'm sure there are games that meet the criteria you want, you just have to look! I wish you a year 2024 just to your liking and have fun on Steam!😉

Then you need to learn how to research better because I have tons of games that do as you wish. Across all sorts of platforms.

I recommend you do my usual trick as I do.

Go to a place like Metacritic or Opencritic and list EVERYTHING by review score. IGNORE the actual score for now, but list down every single title that appears worth noticing or looking into. You should get a long list, and go down as far as you wish down that list.

When ready then go and read PROFESSIONAL reviews (ignore the user reviews) and find out which reviewers gel with your setntiments. This makes it easier going forward to find them again.

Scratch out any games that no longer apply to you. It takes some time the first time you do it, but eventually you'll have alist of everything to date you could want.

Then go and watch the odd Youtube video so you note the fiuner points of the mechnics and so on.

This is how I've bought games for DECADES and it's been well over 25 years since I bought a game I didn't know exactly what I was getting into.

So if I can do it, you can too.

Then all you have to do is update the list every month or so which takes a few minutes each time.

There are plenty chill games on Steam without killing and stuff.

And quite few really good ones.
You just didn't look hard enough.

There is action in there, but death stranding has a mostly chill and a bit of an exploration vibe, you can be very pacifist, might as well try it. I give it a 9/10. Maybe wattam and katamari damacy, but I guess you consume things lol.

Then you aren't looking. There's thousands of games that don't feature any violence as part of their core gameplay loop.

Here's just a few off the top of my head:
Snowrunner
The Talos Principle 2
Zoo Tycoon
GiFTPiA
Bejeweled

And so on...

Do better at looking.
