Also Steam isn't run by one guy buying games so yeah.... Another thing Windows 7 is 1%.... Forgot that 99% still has support... Yeah kind of akward for yourself. The other problem don't understand is that Windows 10 was a free upgrade to you, which you could've just DUAL BOOT yeah dual boot is still a thing, it exist as an option to have multiple OS's on a single device mind blowing I know. And if some reason hate using newer Windows, then there Linux distros you can choose from all over the rainbow again you can just dual boot.
But anyways you're games not gone, nor is your account, if you choose not to use supported OS that a you problem, and you just have to figure out your own problem to solving it that all there is to it, once your client loses connection to Steam server due to being too far out of date there nothing can do but either use support OS, go somewhere else, or find a new hobby.
Welcome to the Epic Game store, at least you can keep your dinosaur windows 7.
There are exception of DRM Free Steam games like Hades did.
Anyways the main focus is DRM which if one doesn't want to face the music of support for their OS being loss due to time, they should only stick to DRM free, never look towards live services, and DRM which yes it does sucks you lose option of not buying games that DRM, but that the trade off really as some publishers, and indie devs want to fight agsaint piracy hence why DRM exist.
We will be sticking with Win 7. We will not upgrade, and expect the games we rightfully paid for, will be accessible in our libraries, post Jan 1. You have clarified your statements as to that.
And we thank you.
However, the future of Steam, thru lawsuits, competition, pricing, acquisition threats, moderation snafu, even congressional inquiries, are looking bleak.
What we customers need is ASSURANCE, that the games we earn, purchase and own, will be accessible in the coming years, and beyond.
Win XP, a couple hundred thousand. Win 7 and 8, more than a million. Win 10, possibly many millions, in just a few years, kaput.
We want to see Steam SUC-CEED, Mr Newell, and with that, a Legacy Launcher, mode, or way to traverse this minefield you set forth for us.
It is not fair.
Hear your customers.
We deserve access to the games, we bought for the system we bought them on.
Your Friend,
Ranger
PS: Please ask Sony to make Playstation 1, 2, 3 and 4 games all work on Playstation 5, and have Microsoft allow games to work on Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One and have all Gameboys made by Nitendo still produce games that work on all ancient handhelds, including Gameboy, Gameboy Advance and the color additions.
Those games do work on the systems we bought them on.
I just answered the question lol. I suppose, the overall post, is how many millions, is Mr Newell willing to purge, every time MS gets an itch? 5 million? 10 million?
What is the number it will take, for Mr Newell to make the very investment, at least from what i heard he would do anyway, if the company went belly up, and keep access to our games?
Less then 1% is the number he is clearly willing to purge, as that is what the number of users has been the last 5 times this occured...
So I looked some stuff up Windows 7 is about 0.5% of the Steam user market. Linux is now roughly 3.1%. I get why people want to keep Windows 7 I really do. Change can be unnerving and can be a pain to switch to something else.
I have been using Linux for over 20 years now and made Linux my daily driver permanently roughly a decade ago. It is not like it used to be where the compatibility between Windows and Linux used to be. Since valve introduced Proton then the Steam deck gaming has gotten way better. Honestly its like over 90% and the few gamnes that dont work on Steam there is Lutris and out of the few that dont work that way you have programs like Bottles. Will ALL games work on Linux no. Games with anti cheat are a problem and honestly if you running Windows 7 you wouldn't probably be able to run those games due to older hardware any ways.
For those of you who have a steam deck FYI it is shipped with Linux, dont like Linux put windows 10 on it. Although I think that is a bad move because it isnt fully compatible on the steam deck.
You could always replace Windows 7 with a Linux distro that looks and mostly feels like Windows 7 on the desktop. Honestly these days Windows is so restrictive compared to Linux it baffles me as to why people still put up with Windows. Linux can do almost anything compared to windows you want you desktop to look like Windows 3.1 there is a distro for that or Windows 95 98 Win 7-8.1. The questions I get about Linux on what people have heard and think about Linux are soooo out dated now (minus the compatibility on certain games of course).
Look I'f your up for it I have a small Linux Channel on Rumble go check it out. Post your questions over there and I will try to answer them heck I'll probably do a video on it showing how to do it. Please NO trolls I am only posting this to try to help those who think they are out of options and who dont really know how to use linux or switch to it.

Again I'm only trying to help I'f you not Interested then you not interested.
Take it easy you'll find a way.
Fortnite already dropped Windows 7 support. Don't be surprised if the Epic Launcher does the same one day.
Just because it hasn't been announced, doesn't mean it won't happen.
