I`m sticking with Win 7. My desktop has to much productivity software/hardware than to go through all the rigmarole of updating the O/S just to play a few (101) games. So cheerio all - its been a blast.

After several runs of rundll32 advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks in an admin command prompt, rebooting every time, I got a Windows 10 22H2 laptop working quite decently.

Eventually other things will stop working on Win7, in particular web browsers that eventually stop updating on older OS's which can lead to incompatibility with some web sites.

As someone that's owned countless computers over the last 40+ years, you eventually have to buy a new computer. Especially with modern Windows machines that seem to slow down over time, eventually requiring a complete wipe and reinstall just to get rid of all the outdated and unused junk clogging up system resources.

There are still updated browsers being made for Windows XP, so...

For now. But eventually something will change that won't, or can't, be updated in older OS versions which could eventually lead to more and more websites not working correctly.
Change is inevitable. You either change with it, or get left behind.

support for XP ended in 2009. It is 2024 in most places.

2024 - 2009 = 15 years, and it is still getting updated browsers. I think the Win 7 people will be fine.
