Do many people genuinely care about badges and account level?

It's become harder and harder over the years since we've lost events like Saliens and the Grand Prix to care. Badges are the same stale system: 5 levels per game, spending money for no real benefits past a certain point, i.e. diminishing returns.

Level 25 is essentially that diminishing point. Did you ever come to the realization that it doesn't matter and just stop cold turkey?

That said, I do enjoy crafting badges, though I don't craft them for every game I have that drops trading cards. Some TCs I sell to keep some money in my Steam Wallet, some I turn into gems and make Booster Packs from, some sets I will complete by putting in buy orders for cards I need and I set my purchase price pretty low. So I wait for a long time for someone to sell a card at the price I set as my maximum price I am willing to pay. Others I trade my duplicate cards for ones that I need to complete a set- and I often have to wait a long time for someone to offer a trade.

I enjoy dressing up my profile with some showcases, I love getting new emoticons, and it's just something I enjoy doing for myself when I can afford it. Not sure why it's a big deal to anyone else or why it prompts some people to be hostile about it. It's my money and time, and I can spend it how I like.

Just be honest, you're not hoping for Grand Prix event, you just want the cheapest way to level up. 100 tokens per level at that time.

Right now, there's "steam point" where you can exchange for seasonal badge for 1000 points per level up to lv40 twice a year at the points shop. Don't say it's "harder" now since you can farm steam point for free and it is "worthless" according to most people.

Anyway, you're actually care about leveling your account when it is "cheap" enough for you. 😏

Looks like I have some community badges, and 15 or so holiday sale badges from 2011-2020.

And apparently I don't have a single game badge. I don't do the Market, or trade. I think I've gotten 3 or 4 booster packs over the years.

It's an imaginary requirement some users have as friend requirements, outside of that. It does let you upgrade your profile more.

I only care about account lvls for verification reasons.

any one with a account lvlv of 9 or lower I will not accept friends request.. Same with accounts that do not have 10 or less bought legit games... F2P games dont count.. scammers and bots generally don;t lvl up their accounts ect

Account level does make cards drop faster. Crafting badges raises level, so it's all correlated.

At first I was totally hooked with the idea of slowly rising ranks and unlocking showcases. It's a pretty nice feature being able to show screenshots, achievements, have a personalized text box, etc.

Although I don't see the point of having more than... Let's say 3 showcases as the profile can become bloated pretty easily (something that many people fall for). So, nowadays I don't actively chase leveling up the account and it happens rather organically.

It's much, much better to pay for games and having badges of the ones you truly like.
