-collecting items without using points
-reselling/trading items because those you buy with point you can't sell them nor trade them
Basically, the only valid reasons to craft badges are to get shiny badges, level up, and get free cards during a major sale event. Nowadays, the vast majority of items are clutter that are hard to sell, so you're best off converting the excess to gems and move on.
If you can't then that's something you can't get without collecting all those trade cards and building up your badge level.
That aside, you could spend them on the seasonal badge if there's nothing else you're interested in. That being said, I don't think it gives so much XP.
