So much garbage on the steam store
Are they just letting ANYONE make a game and put it on the store these days? Even most triple A or big ass companies are putting out mcdonalds teir games. Its like we've lost track of what makes a game enjoyable. Anyone feel me here?

RockStar is a standard alright. Not that standard though.

Yes. That's what users wanted when they weren't happy at the rate Valve was approving/adding indie games to the store. The trade off is anyone can add any pile of crap game if they've got $100 laying around. the upside is good games aren't arbitrarily held up due to bureaucracy.

Rose tinted glasses. No one ever believes they're wearing them. And they'll engage in whatever confirmation biases it takes to maintain their beliefs, even when there's lots of good games being released. And there's always been more mediocre games than good games, a fact people figure out how to ignore when convenient.

You're not wrong
Because they know, no matter what, it will sell.

People might be mad sure, but then they'll turn around and buy the next installment unquestionably.

Nope. Valve refuse to sell a variety of games for just as many reasons.

If they curate people complain that Game X isn't in the store because it doesn't suit their taste. If they don't curate people complain about low budget games.

Honestly I prefer they not curate. Its not hard to find more good games then you'd ever have time to play. There have been so many indie games i've enjoyed like Vampire Survivors that might never have been on the store if they curated.
The only thing I find annoying is the stupid studios churning out 50 titles of crappy 50 cents games and trying to sell them for 100 bucks.
It just makes the discovery queue a depressing mess.

I wish there was a mass ignore button for those things.

They indeed allow whoever wants to put a game on Steam. Which is actually a thing I quite like. I prefer a not curated shop that sells the stuff I like, and the stuff I don't like I can easily ignore.

While I do use GoG for their niche of making old games work on modern systems, I don't like their limited catalog. Same with Epic, btw. Such curated stores provide too little for me.

Yeah, actually.

It's true we need to work a little harder these days to filter out the jewels from the trash. It's okay to be a bit pickier when selecting games.

I can pretty much guarantee you there are certain people who will play games that other people wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. Look, it is just easier to ignore the games I'm not interested in then complain about them. Isn't that why Steam added the features to narrow down exactly what types of games you are looking for?

I guess I could be grateful to have a place to complain about it, though. Viewpoints can be important as long as people realize theirs isn't the only ones that exist.

As I always like saying ... one man's trash is another man's treasure.

Nope. Got over 300 games on Steam and the vast majority have been and are enjoyable to me. There's more I would like to have, a ton more, but have no money or time, so they have to wait until another day. I've been gaming for over 45 years, and things haven't looked better in terms of the amount of quality games I can get for a decent price. We've come a long way since '83.
