TL:DR Either you get good, or bad support just like every other video company on this planet.
All I've gotten back is repetitive replies that "the warning was applied correctly", no explanation at all. Mind you it was just a warning; I wasn't even banned or anything, so I'm not super mad and just want an explanation. I fully expect that if somebody actually looks at it, they'll refer me to one or more of the posts on that thread instead of the request to delete it and the warning will remain valid. I don't question that something I did was a violation of their anti-freedom censorship, and since it's just a warning, I just want to know what I said that set them off.
But from the fact that nobody has actually answered my question and all I'm getting is stuff that doesn't even make sense, I conclude:
"Steam support" is nothing but a Cleverbot clone designed to blow you off, and actual staff members may not exist and if they do, they will never reply to you.
If what you seek is reasonable and within the means of Steam support to actually handle, then they're very good. The few times I've had to interact with them were fast, friendly, and left me satisfied.
If what you seek is unreasonable, against TOS, or just outside the means of what Steam support is able to actually do, expect to come away disappointed. You can see the results of these interactions among the selfish complaints on these forums made by people who refuse to take any personal responsibility for anything.
Note; A lot of support tasks are actually completely automated. If you request a refund within two weeks and under two hours of gameplay, for example, that request is just approved automatically, and no human being will even see it. This is nice, as it makes for quick solutions and lower workload on the team.
Also note; The forum moderation team and the Steam Support team are two different groups of people.
When a forum is hate-brigaded: our reports take 7-36hrs for a response. (avg 20-24).
A thread could be drowning in griefers for 48hrs, before a couple of people catch 24hr-timeouts.
just walk away. its the only thing they understand anymore and in most cases it still wont fix things it will get one specfic bs to stop not dealing with the overarching problem that caused it.
Steam Support is very good
So, to answer the question, is Steam Support good?
- The paid moderator team that works the reports: no, not really.
- The actual Steam Support team that helps with account & billing issues and does ban appeals: yes, never had an issue with them.
thats the moderstation team hurr durr.
steam support had clear violations pointed out and the only thing they did was kick it to the developer. its gonna save me money in the long run since i can black list the dev from my wallet and future spending but if you have a real issue with people harassing you after game related disagreements most of the time its petty and they just report every post you make until you get a ban and steam support is just as guilty for enabling those people who are alienating users.
none of these companies ever seem to understand how these report for chat nonsense are ever used and why only that one group of people are the only ones to ever support the use of chat bans.
They've sometimes been a bit slow to reply in the past, but all issues have been resolved.
Not sure about lately, haven't really needed much support these days.
At most a refund or something.
The modding recently also has definitely improved
